Holiday Cheer continues at NHVH! 🎄
Today we share the second half of our celebration of two joyful Christmas parties on our Franklin Pierce and Tarr East Neighborhoods, where every resident received personalized gifts, hand-picked just for them. It was a warm and festive day filled with laughter, music, the true spirit of giving...and ugly sweaters, the theme of the day.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped make these celebrations so special for our veterans, including our donors, sponsors, Recreation Therapy shopping elves, Volunteer gift wrapping elves, and Santa himself! We are grateful beyond words for the continued love and support.

Holiday Cheer continues at NHVH! 🎄
On this Christmas Day, we share 'Part 1' of our celebration of two joyful Christmas parties—one in our Franklin Pierce Neighborhood and another in the Tarr East Neighborhood, where every resident received personalized gifts, hand-picked just for them. It was a warm and festive day filled with laughter, music, the true spirit of giving...and ugly sweaters, the theme of the day.
We were also honored to welcome Fred Caruso from who stopped by with a generous donation from the station's Cash and Cans fundraiser!

Our festivities continue! On Sunday, we were honored to welcome Rolling Thunder members as they sponsored a festive Christmas Party, complete with music by Heather and Steve. We also give a shout out to the Franklin Lions Club, led by Cathe Kearney Seymour, Club President, for their visit and personal delivery of cards made for each of our veterans.

It's the most wonderful time of the year!
As our daily December theme days continued, Penguin Day did not disappoint. Adding smiles to our day were the New Hampshire Elks who personally delivered Christmas cheer at the Christmas Party they sponsored - complete with music by Ghost Riderz. Also personally delivering holiday cheer in the form of donations to our Resident Benefit Fund were the wonderful folks from the American Legion Young & Richardson Post 59 in Hillsboro and American Legion District 5.
We are so thankful to all who make our days bright and beautiful. The generosity, music, and kindness remind us all of the true spirit of the season.

Friday brought music, magic, and meaningful moments to NHVH!
We were honored to welcome Executive Councilor Karen Liot Hill for a caroling visit. She, along with her daughters and staff, filled our Home with holiday spirit—playing piano, singing, and creating lasting memories. The joy on everyone’s faces said it all. We are grateful to Councilor Liot Hill for taking the time to visit, share her talents, and bring her daughters for a visit, too!

Also bringing Christmas cheer were the Jubilate Singers (Dickens Era caroling group) who made their way through our Home, singing in full costume! Their final stop was with the Councilor and her group upstairs where everyone joined together in a magical moment of music and community. Cheer was also found in the day's Cowboy Santa theme day; we love the energy and smiles our theme days bring.

Adding to this season of giving, personally delivering wonderful donations were:
-Huggins Hospital, who delivered 4 carts full of personalized stockings for their 4th year! Every stocking was thoughtfully crafted and unique, thanks to their wonderful staff who came together once again for this incredible tradition. We are deeply thankful.
- DAR Ranger Chapter + Elks #97 (Portsmouth) - Susan H personally delivered many socks for our veterans.
- American Legion District 4 - for their wonderful sponsorship of veterans' Christmas gifts with the donation delivered by Steve Shillinglaw and Bob Blais (former NHVH Board member!).

We are so thankful to all who made today a bright and beautiful one. The generosity, music, and kindness remind us all of the true spirit of the season.

Our daily theme days continuer with Polar Bear Day last week! ❄️
Residents sported white gear and shared ideas at our Resident Council Meeting. The agenda included exciting conversations about movies, trips, and more. Two lucky attendees walked away with cash prizes thanks to our prize wheel spin!
We were thrilled to welcome back Molly the dog, who’s recovered wonderfully from her recent surgery. Full of energy and love, Molly reminded us why she’s one of the most beloved visitors in the home. The day wrapped up with a special Birthday Bingo sponsored by the New Hampshire Elks. We are incredibly thankful for their continued support and generosity!

We care about your health and appreciate the resources provided by the VA to maximize veterans' health and well being during this busy time. Throughout the holidays, while experiencing times of joy, it is also possible to experience stress.
Below are possible symptoms:
* difficulty concentrating
* feel worried and fearful
* feel “wound up—with sweaty palms, pounding heart and tense muscles
* feel irritable toward others
* feel tired.
If you are experiencing any of these, the article below may be helpful to you for tips to managing your stress:

On behalf of all residents and staff, we share a HUGE thank you to long-time volunteer and friend of the home, Susan Rogers! Susan visits us regularly, spending time with individual residents, and helping create our custom NHVH clothing items. Last week, Susan brought in a wonderful treat with her homemade cookies. Susan made enough for every veteran and staff member – WOW. We are beyond thankful for all the many things she does for our NH Veterans Home family members. Thank you Susan!

It's truly a wonderful holiday season with caroling and gift-giving! Consuelo and Donna presented a sponsorship check from Governor Ayotte to Commandant Kim MacKay for our veterans' Christmas presents. Our veterans are now all sponsored! Susanna and Ada made a special delivery of hand-painted ornaments from the White Mountain Decorative Painters Guild. They are absolutely gorgeous. We also extend our appreciation to our volunteers who joined us to sing Christmas carols. Libby, at the keyboard, led us in joyful harmony. Four of our veterans - Ron, Alan, David and Gordon, all joined in on their harmonicas. All added such joy to this special, musical and magical day!

It’s beginning to look a lot like a NH Veterans Home Christmas! And we have so much to celebrate.
Tying in with our daily theme of gingerbread cookies, our veterans were delighted to be joined by the Winnisquam Regional High School Cheerleaders for gingerbread house building! We’re so thankful for them coming in, making this an annual tradition to join us to create amazing edible abodes. The cheerleaders even performed their halftime routine for us. So many laughs and smiles! Thank you, WRHS Cheerleaders and coaches!
