Vandenberg Funeral Home

Vandenberg Funeral Home For 60 years, Vandenberg Funeral Home has remained family-owned and family-operated, built on personal service and strong values.

Generations have changed, traditions have evolved, but our commitment to meaningful, personalized care has never wavered. Our family has been involved in the funeral business for nearly 70 years. Our history stems back to the original family owned funeral home in Blue Island, Illinois which was established in 1937. Our original Tinley Park location was established in 1965 near Oak Park Avenue in downtown Tinley Park. In 1997 we opened a new, modern facility in Tinley Park on Harlem Avenue, moving from our original Tinley facility. In 1985 we purchased, renovated and expanded our Mokena location, opening in 1987. The Funeral Home is active in both Tinley Park and Mokena communities, always surrounding our business with community events.

UPDATE: Services Restored

We are happy to report that our phone and internet services are now fully operational.

We sincerely thank the crews who worked through the storms to resolve the issue and restore service as quickly as possible.

We also appreciate your patience and understanding during the outage.

UPDATE (8:50 PM):

We remain without phone and internet service at this time. I personally drove by the affected area this evening and observed approximately 15–20 utility/Xfinity trucks working on the issue. I spoke with one of the technicians, but unfortunately, there is no estimated time for restoration 🤷‍♂️.

As noted previously, our 24/7 answering service is fully operational. When calling the funeral home, the phone will ring 4–5 times before being answered. The service will take your message and promptly notify our staff.

You may also reach us via email at info@vandenbergfuneralhome.com, and we will be happy to assist you that way as well.

We sincerely appreciate your continued patience and understanding.

NOTICE: Temporary Service Outage (11:40am)

Our internet and phone systems are currently down. We appreciate your patience as our staff works through this issue.

Our answering service remains operational. When calling our funeral home, the phone will ring four times before being answered.

If your call is urgent, please indicate that to the answering service, and our team will return your call as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding.

Grief Looks Like:

Feeling great one minute and
falling to pieces the next.
Avoiding things and people that
remind you of your loss.
Moving in and out of acceptance,
denial, bargaining, anger, and depression.
Losing interest in activities.
A desire to be alone.
Feeling like no one else can understand the magnitude of your loss.
Not getting over your loss quickly.

We’ve always believed that being there matters—day or night, start to finish.

In a world with many options, we remain committed to doing things the right way, the personal way.
No shortcuts, no handoffs—just our family serving yours.

That commitment has never changed.

I know my grandpa is watching this moment.
Grateful for my son stopping in today—picked me up more than he knows.

Who we are

Since our founding we have been family owned and operated. Our family has been involved in the funeral business for nearly 70 years with our history stemming back to the original family owned funeral home in Blue Island, Illinois which was established in 1937 (Pictured on left).

Our original Tinley Park location was established in 1965 near Oak Park Avenue in "Downtown" Tinley Park. In 1997 we opened a new, modern facility in Tinley Park on Harlem Avenue, moving from our original Tinley facility. In 1985 we purchased an old farm house on Wolf Road, we restored and expanded the new Mokena location, opening in 1987.

Another aspect of our family business was the ambulance service; this service worked together with the funeral home, as the funeral homes has long vehicles that could be used to transport patients to hospitals (ie. Hearse coach). The ambulance service was created to fill an unmet need for emergency medical transportation. In the early days of EMS, Vandenberg Ambulance was the only option for communities located in the south suburbs of Chicago. The company responded to motor vehicle accidents in communities from Blue Island to Joliet, and over time, began serving hospitals and nursing homes. The services provided in the very beginning were only those of a first responder, and that was simply the transport of an injured patient to the closest hospital.

The Vandenberg Family, has always insisted on staying involved throughout the communities they live and work in. The funeral home operates in best practices in funeral service, and strives for excellence when conducting funeral services for families we serve. We make a point of working together with area churches and charitable organizations to meet the demand of the community with an open mind and giving heart.
