Looking for a fun and supportive group for siblings of children with autism? Consider the Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center Sibling Support Group. This group gives siblings the opportunity to share experiences, make connections, and learn coping skills in a relaxed, supportive environment. The group is open to children ages 7 to 15 years old.

When: May 12th, May 19th, May 26th, and June 2nd (Tuesdays)

Time: 5:00 pm to 6:15 pm (Remote/Online Sessions)

Today is Profound Autism Day.

In 2023, the CDC reported that 26.7% of people with autism have profound autism. But its most recent prevalence report did not track this data. That gap matters.

CASP and Association of Professional Behavior Analysts have jointly released The Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Assessment Guidelines for Behavior Analysts. https://www.casproviders.org/assessment-guidelines

This resource is intended to support ethical, effective assessments of clients with autism. The guidelines will help ABA practitioners select, design, and administer standardized instruments to identify:

- Core symptoms and autism characteristics.
- Adaptive functioning.
- Wellbeing and quality of life.
- Co-occurring health conditions.

The guidelines also describe behavior analysts’ ethical obligations to:

- Maximize client benefit.
- Minimize potential harm.
- Consider clients’ unique needs, circumstances, and resources.

Along with the guidelines, CASP and APBA have produced an interactive, online tool to aid practitioners in implementing the right assessments. The tool will be made available in the near future.

We had a great day of training for the teaching staff at a nearby school district for their Professional Development. We all shared experiences and discussion about current behavior strategies that can be used in a number of educational settings.
