These post-operative XRs of a total knee replacement that I recently performed in Titusville show excellent alignment.

The patient was walking just a few hours after surgery and was discharged from the hospital before noon the following day - essentially a 24-hour admission.

Greetings from Dallas, Texas! I'm attending the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) annual meeting. It's great to connect with colleagues and spend time reviewing new techniques and best practices.

I'm committed to continuous improvement so that I can bring the best possible orthopedic surgery care to my patients. I have already learned a few new tips and tricks that I plan to implement upon my return.

Hip fractures are life-threatening injuries. The mortality rate at one year after a hip fracture approaches ~30%. They keys to optimizing the patient's outcome are timely surgical intervention and stable fixation which allows for immediate weightbearing.

The first XR shows a hip fracture with significant displacement. This type of fracture pattern is complex and more difficult to fix.

The second XR shows the same fracture following reduction and stabilization in the opearting room with a long nail. The alignment is nearly anatomic and the stabilization is rock-solid.

I will let this patient put full weight on her leg in order to maximize functionality and minimize deconditioning, which is a real risk for this patient.

I performed this surgery at Titusville Area Hospital, and I was assisted by my PA-C, Andrew Gunn, and the excellent operating room team with whom I am proud to work.

On Saturday, TASH (www.tashinc.org) celebrated the 17th Annual Ole 5k in North Park in Pittsburgh, PA. We had beautiful weather and over 430 runners, which set a record for attendance.

TASH supports a hospital and other projects in Oaxaca, Mexico, that serve the poor.

TASH was founded 25 years ago by Father Scott Seethaler, a Franciscan Capuchin priest. He is in the center of one of the photos.

I have been involved with TASH for more than a decade, and I have been board president since 2018.

Ultrasound is a technology that has been around for a long time, and it has a lot to offer the field of orthopedic surgery.

Currently, I am using this both for diagnosis and treatment right here in Titusville. Ultrasound has advantages over an MRI in that: (1) ultrasound can be performed in the office immediately, (2) the arm can be manipulated during the examination, and (3) ultrasound can be used in conjunction with procedures like injections.

I'm a big believer in customization! I was inspired to shoot this short (< 1 minute) video just after a recent total knee replacement.

The custom, patient-specific cutting guides (which are based on the patient's unique anatomy) make all of the difference in the world.

I had a great time yesterday at the community meeting hosted by the Tionesta Lions Club. We had the chance to discuss total knee and total hip replacements as well as opportunities and challenges that Titusville Area Hospital faces in the next 18 months.

It was my first visit to Tionesta - what a beautiful town! I hope to come back soon.
