On Wednesday, September 9, 2025, Senators George Lang and Mark Romanchuk introduced Senate Bill 258 — the Better Access to Healthcare Act.

This is the legislation we’ve been waiting for — the bill that would finally remove the Standard Care Arrangement in Ohio.

This didn’t happen overnight. It’s the direct result of the relentless work of our Key Person Program, Government Relations Committee, OAAPN members across the state, and our lobbying team. We now have two strong sponsors leading the way, and that’s proof our efforts are being heard at the Statehouse.

Here’s what happens next:
• In the coming weeks, SB 258 will move to sponsor testimony and then be assigned to committee — most often the Senate Health Committee.
• Once in committee, legislators will hear both proponent and opponent testimony.
• Before that vote happens, we need your voices. Legislators must hear directly from APRNs in their districts — letters, meetings, personal stories. That’s how we win.

This is real. Wisconsin just became the latest state to retire their SCA. Other states are moving right now.

Ohio’s moment is here. But it won’t happen on its own. It will only happen if we — every OAAPN member, every APRN in this state — show up and get involved.

That’s why our 2025 Statewide Conference in Columbus, October 23–25, is more important than ever. It’s not just about CE. It’s where we’ll strategize, learn, and rally around this bill together. It’s where you can plug in, understand exactly what’s next, and walk away knowing how to help.

This is our chance to make history in Ohio healthcare.
We’ve put in the work, and we are one step closer to real change.

Now, I need you.
• Get registered for the conference.
• Watch for OAAPN updates.
• Answer the call when we ask you to write, to meet, to testify.

Together, we can do this. Together, we can finally retire the SCA and move Ohio forward.

Thank you for being part of this fight.
I’ll see you in Columbus.

-Eric Snyder, DNP, APRN-CNP
President, OAAPN

Hm.
I wouldn't kneel down. That puts you in a vulnerable position, e.g. should the dog lunge at you.

When I meet a dog:

1. Ask if you can pet/ say hello !!!!!!!
2. Approach calmly without staring at the dog or towering over the dog (read body language of the dog)
A scared dog should definitely be approached side on, however, if the dog is scared, the owner should NOT let strangers pet them. Instead, slowly introduce strangers by letting them come near but ignoring the dog, so the dog can feel safe and choose when to approach the human.
When the dog approaches the human and has a good sniff then you can slowly introduce petting the dog (but not on top of the head)
3. I always pet under the chin and not on top of the head as I believe in nurturing confidence.
