This week's is Dr. Hossein Elgafy. Dr. Elgafy is a Professor of Orthopedics and the Chief of Spine Surgery at UTMC. He is a class act who always works extremely hard for his patients and is always kind to the patients and staff. Dr. Elgafy truly believes in his work and is 100% dedicated to UTMC.

"My favorite parts of my job are taking care of my patients by giving them the best of care, teaching, research and innovation. I have developed special interest in failed spine surgeries. Some of these patients have had multiple surgeries in other institutions, and I provide this group of patients with care locally with good outcomes. I enjoy presenting our research in national and international meetings, raising the profile of the University of Toledo. In 2019, we successfully obtained a U.S. Patent for a Bone Graft Material (BGM) Mixing and Delivery Device that I use in spine surgery," said Dr. Elgafy.

Dr. Elgafy has been with the orthopedics department since 2006 and his devotion to Toledo is apparent when he describes what he loves about the city: "People are kind and friendly. There are nice parks to walk in, which is my favorite exercise, not much traffic, a beautiful museum of art, and an outstanding zoo. Toledo’s motto, β€œYou will do better in Toledo,” came true for me and my family."

We're so thankful for Dr. Elgafy!
