Sherrie Rolynda McGinnis departed this life on November 27, 2025, at home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on March 20, 1961, in Maplesville, Alabama, to the union of her parents, Terrie Lee Coleman and Juanita Etherly-Slater.
Sherrie's early years were spent in Gary, Indiana, before her family relocated to Monroe, Michigan. She attended Monroe High School, later moving to Toledo, Ohio, where she completed her education and proudly graduated from Scott High School.
After high school, Sherrie began working at Poor Clark's Barber Shop as an attendant and cashier—a job she truly loved. For a period of time, she also worked in housekeeping at the Knights Inn Hotel, where her strong work ethic and warm personality left a lasting impression. Sherrie later discovered her exceptional gift for sewing, becoming a master seamstress for Jobst Industries, where she dedicated many years of service until the company's closing. Her creativity also led her to work as a seamstress for several designers in South Bend, Indiana.
Sherrie was a woman of remarkable skill, creativity, and compassion. She opened and operated her own adult care facility, providing heartfelt care to those in need until health complications required her retirement. Caring for others came naturally to her; she possessed a deeply gentle and compassionate spirit.
Sherrie's joyful presence lit up every room she entered. She absolutely loved to laugh and had a gift for making others laugh right along with her. A true jokester at heart, Sherrie enjoyed telling jokes, teasing playfully, and bringing smiles to the faces of family, friends, and anyone blessed to be in her company. Her humor was infectious, her timing impeccable, and her laughter—full and genuine—will be dearly missed.
Her artistic talents were endless. Sherrie was an exceptional songstress with a voice like no other. She wrote and produced a gospel album titled End Time Revival, devoting herself fully to its creation and often keeping her children by her side in the studio. She also had a special talent for hair braiding—an art she performed with precision, patience, and love for friends, family, and community.
Sherrie loved acrylic painting, cross-stitching, and crocheting, and she spent years running a daycare in her home in South Bend, nurturing and guiding the children in her care. She also had a great passion for ballroom dancing. Whether gliding across the floor or swaying to the rhythm, dancing brought her immense joy and allowed her vibrant spirit to shine.
Sherrie's creativity extended far beyond the arts. She had a natural green thumb and took great joy in tending to her yard, planting beautiful flowers, and maintaining a magnificent plant room. Her baking—especially her unforgettable apple pie and zucchini bread—was cherished by many. She also operated a home remodeling business for several years, mastering nearly every skill imaginable... except electrical work, which she happily left to the professionals. Truly, Sherrie was a jack of all trades.
Sherrie is preceded in death by her father, Terrie Lee Coleman; her baby twin brother and sister, April and Christopher Coleman; her stepfather, Sidney E. Slater; her ex-husband, Bathea Hayward; her grandfather, LaGrant Etherly; her grandmother, Lotti Bell Mason-Etherly; and her step-grandmother, Mary Etherly.
