On Presidents’ Day, we reflect on legacy.

Leadership, service, and dedication don’t only exist on a national stage. We see them every day in parents, grandparents, veterans, and neighbors who quietly made a difference in the lives around them.

Today, we honor all those legacies—large and small.

The Lucas County Sheriff’s Office has been notified by the family of retired Lieutenant Nancy (Bojarski) Kowalski of her passing, and we mourn the loss of a respected colleague and dedicated public servant.
Lieutenant Kowalski began her career of service to the community on July 25, 1997, under Sheriff James A. Telb, continuing a proud family legacy of public service shared by many members of her Bojarski family. After nearly 25 years of dedicated service, she retired in April of 2022 under Sheriff Michael J. Navarre.

Throughout her career, Nancy exemplified professionalism, integrity, and compassion. She was known for her ability to balance seriousness with humor, and for her genuine willingness to help others whenever she was needed. She was a steady presence, a trusted colleague, and a person many relied on and respected.

Lieutenant Kowalski’s contributions to the Sheriff’s Office and the community she served will not be forgotten. She will be deeply missed by her coworkers, friends, and all who had the honor of serving alongside her.

Arrangements are pending and will be posted here when available.
