Gardner-McMaster Parkinson Research Center The Gardner-McMaster Parkinson Research Center conducts Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease research.

The GMPC’s primary goal is to help people with PD and other movement disorders minimize the impact of their disease and maximize the quality of their lives. Programs and Objectives:
Serve as a resource for regional primary care physicians, providing specialty consultative and continuing care for patients with PD and MD. Serve as a resource for regional neurologists, providing a second opinion regarding diagnostic and therapeutic dilemmas. Serve as primary neurological care providers with specialization in movement disorders. Provide diagnostic services to help assure the accurate diagnosis of PD and other MD. Provide current and evidenced based medical and surgical therapies. Provide psychological, social work and counseling services to help with coping and vocational decisions. Provide rehabilitation services to improve and sustain mobility and physical independence. Provide educational services for the patient, family and community. Develop and provide community based wellness programs for a holistic approach to daily living with PD and MD. Provide support services and develop respite care programs for care givers. Support structured volunteer opportunities and services. Network with advocacy groups and community resources to promote services appropriate for the needs of PD and MD patients and their families. Coordinate and conduct clinical research for PD and MD. Work within the mission of The University of Toledo and University of Toledo Medical Center to educate future physicians and providers of care from a variety of disciplines in regards to treatment and care of those affected by PD and other movement disorders.

That's our man!

Dr. Elmer has been selected as the recipient of the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences Dean’s Award for Master Clinician for 2021.

The purpose of this award is to recognize clinicians who serve as outstanding and aspirational examples of the finest qualities of the medical practitioner — essentially the “doctors’ doctor.” The successful award recipient will have demonstrated contributions of enduring significance to the clinical mission of The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences.
