Today is bittersweet for a Friday. We bid farewell to Jenny, the Administrator at our sister facility Arbors at Carroll. Jenny stepped in to help out as our acting Administrator. Even though we are extremely excited for ours to return, Jenny will be missed. Thank you from all us here at Arbors at Sylvania. We will be keeping friendship through the miles.

The Flag City Honor Flight

Ernesto Rios was honored this year with an invitation to participate in the Flag City Honor Flight.

At the age of 20, Ernesto was informed he would be drafted into the Army. Rather than wait to be drafted, he felt it was his duty to enlist. At the time, the country was at war—The Vietnam War.

Ernesto served as a switchboard operator in the Army. He was responsible for managing the communication systems that allowed soldiers to connect with one another and with their commanders. During his service in Vietnam, he slept in a tent and often lay awake at night, listening to the sounds of war all around him.

Without delving into the gravest details of his experience, Ernesto describes it as both the best and the most difficult time of his life. Still, he feels proud to have given his all to serve his country.

We honor him with this flight to Washington, D.C., in recognition of his bravery.

Thank you, Ernesto, for your service to our country. Your courage, sacrifice, and strength do not go unnoticed. We are forever grateful to you and your family for all that you have given.
