David E. Humason was born November 8th, 1934, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Harry and Marie Humason. He passed away on February 11th, 2026, after a life defined by service, generosity, humor, and deep devotion to family and friends.

Dave attended Kent State University, where he met his wife Rayna, who preceded him in death. With one semester of coursework remaining, he enlisted in the Army so they could graduate together. After serving in Germany as a Private First Class, he returned home; together they graduated on the morning of June 7th, 1958, and were married that same day, beginning a partnership grounded in love and shared purpose.

Dave and Rayna raised five children: Paul (Sue), Jean (Dave Adams), Eric (Sherri), Stuart (Dina), and Jeff (Nicole). He was a proud grandfather to Andrea, Amanda, Nick, Evan, Rachel, Aspen, Jessica, Emily, Sarah, Julia, James, Gabe, Mike, Luke, John, Maria, Elizabeth, Rayna, and Gianna, and great-grandfather to eleven.

He devoted his career to the YMCA, serving in North Canton and later leading three branches in the Toledo area. He believed in showing up – for youth, families, colleagues, and community. In retirement, he proudly embraced his favorite role: “Grandfather-on-Call.”

Most mornings found Dave before dawn at Swan Creek Metropark with the “Day Breakers,” logging miles and friendships. He had a great sense of humor and was often the instigator of great shenanigans. Both in his career, and with family and friends, Dave led “a significantly meaningful life.”

His life reflected a steady faith expressed through love, fellowship, service, and time spent in nature. We carry forward his humor, his steadiness, and the many ways he made life better for those around him.

Dan Eric Stymiest—long-winded storyteller, world’s best jambalaya maker, devoted dad-joke teller, cagey card player, poet in disguise, and a man who never met a stranger— peacefully left this Earth on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Dan, the baby boy of seven siblings, was born on December 7, 1970, to his beautiful mother, Nancy Jean Baird, on Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, Michigan. His childhood home sat on acres of woods, which he happily claimed as his playground. Growing up with simple means, he mastered the art of making something from very little— a skill he would carry with him for life.
Dan was a lover of dogs and proudly claimed it as his life’s goal to pet them all. He excelled at leaving karaoke bars roaring with a charismatic Frank Sinatra performance, believing he could build just about anything he saw, and getting lost in his Muttley laugh with his wife on the couch. He did not excel at grilling steaks just right when a neighbor stopped by to say hello, hiding when he was lost in thought, or keeping his big heart to himself.
A forever student of life, a deep thinker, and a lover of music and the arts, Dan carried a depth of lived experience and wisdom that allowed him to offer something truly profound to those he loved.
In his early working years, Dan lived a thousand lives, always willing to reinvent himself and try something new. For the last twenty years, he built a business creating beautiful decks and fences— showing up in all weather and through health challenges that would have stopped most.
Overambitious in the best way, Dan worked hard but lived slowly, always making sure to show up for his wife (Annie), his son (Collin), and his daughter (Ashley).
His lifelong hobbies included hunting, writing, cooking, building, and collecting stories. He held a deep love for his country and the values it stood for. Dan was particular about how things were sliced, diced, cooked, built, and painted— never from judgment, but from a desire to co-create thoughtfully with the world around him.
Dan was a man who ferociously loved his family, forever devoted to providing for and protecting them. He was a son, a brother, a nephew, an uncle, a cousin, a friend, a mentor, a dad, and a husband— and he brought his whole heart to every role he held. We are all better people because of him.
At his core, Dan was a humble man who quietly practiced kindness. He was known for small, spontaneous acts of generosity towards strangers, sometimes shared weeks or months later— and sometimes never at all. In his honor, we invite you to do the same whenever the moment finds you. All the love in my heart to you Dad. Da moon, for always.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Annie; his children, Collin and Ashley; his mother, Nancy Jean Baird; and his siblings, Mike (Kathy) Baird, Kathy (Steve) Ostby, Scott (Tina) Baird, John (Claudia) Stymiest, and Kaulana (Jim) Tyson, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Sandra Edington and Barbara Stymiest, and his uncle, Bob Diller.
A memorial service honoring Dan will be held on Saturday, February 14, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., with a more formal service beginning at 2:30 p.m. Services will be held at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43614.

Sharon Jean Harris (née Laidig)
March 17, 1954 – January 3, 2026
Age 71, Toledo

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sharon Jean Harris, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, on January 3, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on March 17, 1954, Sharon was the youngest of three children to George and Francis Laidig. She grew up with her sister Connie (Dave) Sancraint and brother David (Vanessa) Laidig.

Sharon married the love of her life, Bob Harris, and together they embraced adventure, frequently moving across the country and enjoying new beginnings. Sharon took immense pride in being a devoted homemaker to her five children: Robert (Christy) Harris, Samantha Harris, Jacob (Danielle) Harris, Lance (Susan) Harris, and Jeffrey (Lauren) Harris. Her greatest joy was her family, and she cherished her role as matriarch to her 17 grandchildren: Kennedy, Robert III, Bailey, Rylon, Lylah, Jacob II, Rhiannon, Cameron, Lance Jr., Riley, Jackson, George, Madison, Carson, Jeffrey Jr., Charleigh, and Paxton—each of whom she loved fiercely and proudly.

While her heart was always at home, Sharon enjoyed working outside the house from time to time. She found fulfillment in cleaning homes and wrapping seasonal gifts at the Lions Store. Known for her green thumb, Sharon filled her homes with vibrant plants and often nursed sick ones back to life for her family and friends.

Sharon wore her heart on her sleeve and lived with a deep-rooted faith. She shared the gospel with loved ones at just the right moments, offering comfort and inspiration. Her church family at Toledo Apostolic Christian Church held a special place in her heart, second only to her Lord and her family. Sharon delighted in holding her babies and grandbabies and treasured the blessing of babysitting each of her grandchildren over the years. Her love and guidance will forever be remembered.

She was the heart of her family—a true matriarch whose presence will be deeply missed, yet whose love and faith will continue to guide those she leaves behind. Sharon, we’ll “Chitty Chatty” with ya later.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service and luncheon at 12:00 p.m. at Toledo Apostolic Christian Church, 3730 Herr Rd, Sylvania, OH 43560.

James Edward Hughes, a beloved member of his community and a devoted family man, passed away on December 28, 2025, at Waterford at Levis Commons. Born on December 16, 1934, in St. Marys, Ohio, Jim's life was characterized by a strong commitment to faith, family, and service.

A proud High School graduate of Waite High School, Jim served honorably in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve during the Korean War. After finishing his military service, he dedicated many years as a sales clerk and assistant manager for Dean & Barry Paint, culminating his career working in the offices of the Lucas County Clerk of Court.

Jim's spiritual journey took a significant turn in the summer of 1964 when he attended a Billy Graham crusade with his brother, Frank, and their Uncle Bob and families. It was a life-altering moment that transformed his path as he embraced his faith and committed his life to Jesus Christ. His faith was further strengthened when he met his wife Dorothy through a mutual church friend, and they married on June 12, 1971. An active member of the Detroit Avenue Wesleyan and later First Alliance Church of Toledo, Jim contributed to his church community by helping with sponsored dinners, participating in the Gideon ministry to distribute Bibles, and regularly visiting nursing home residents and hospital patients. His humility, compassion, and fervent ability to pray made him a cherished figure among his peers.

Jim's heart was particularly known for its compassion, a quality he displayed even in the face of tremendous personal loss. He experienced the heartbreak of losing his son, Jeffery Allen Hughes, in a tragic auto accident while Jeff was serving in the United States Army stationed in Germany. Despite his own grief, Jim was seen comfortingly attending to others at his son's funeral—an enduring testament to his caring nature.

In addition to his compassionate spirit, Jim was a passionate sport enthusiast. He proudly cheered for The Ohio State Buckeyes, as well as the Cleveland Browns and Guardians (formerly known as the Indians). He also enjoyed the camaraderie of family gatherings, participating in their monthly Pinnacle card club with great enthusiasm.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Joan (Spitler) Hughes; brother William Hughes and wife Ethel; stepson John Paul Campbell; grandchildren Mary Digby and husband Jared, Joel Campbell and wife Melissa; and great-grandchild Sloan.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Florence Margrete George Hughes; his brothers, Franklin Hughes (surviving wife Jeannine), Donald Hughes (surviving wife Betty), Raymond Hughes (surviving wife Juanita); his sister Doris Swartz and husband Jim; and his son, Jeffery Allen Hughes.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on January 2, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, OH 43614. A funeral service celebrating Jim’s incredible life will take place at First Alliance Church of Toledo on January 3, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by a burial at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park at 11:15 AM.

James Edward Hughes leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering faith that will be cherished by all who were fortunate to know him.
