Why Fall Can Quietly Affect Your Mood- Even If You Don’t Realize It!

As the days get shorter and the air turns cooler, many people notice small changes; feeling a little more tired, less motivated, or emotionally “off.”
It’s easy to dismiss it as the weather… but these shifts are actually your body and mind adjusting to the change in season.

Here’s what often happens when daylight decreases:

• Serotonin (the “feel-good” chemical) drops — affecting energy and mood
• Melatonin increases — leading to fatigue or changes in sleep patterns
• Motivation dips — even for things you normally enjoy

If you’ve felt more irritable, distracted, or just “not yourself” lately, you’re not alone. These seasonal changes can influence anyone, especially during the transition into fall and winter.

Try this:
Take a short walk in daylight, check in with your sleep schedule, and make time for something that grounds you- even five quiet minutes can help your brain reset.

And if the shift starts to feel heavier than usual, reaching out for professional support is a strong and healthy step.

After the overwhelming success of our first group, we’re expanding Pathways to Peace to an online, evening format — and we’re keeping it completely FREE to attend.

An 8-week psychoeducational group designed to help adults better manage stress and anxiety through practical, evidence-based skills.

As we gather to celebrate Independence Day, let’s remember that fireworks, while beautiful, can be startling and distressing for some in our community.

🇺🇸 Many veterans live with PTSD and sudden loud booms can bring back painful memories.
🐾 Pets often panic and become disoriented from the noise.
🏡 Some neighbors, such as the elderly, may be sensitive to unexpected sounds, especially at night.

This holiday, please consider:
✨ Limiting fireworks to reasonable hours
✨ Letting neighbors know ahead of time if you plan to celebrate with fireworks
✨ Choosing quieter celebration options when possible

Small acts of consideration help make this day safer and more comfortable for everyone. 💙
