How do you begin turning things around in life when things are difficult or trending down fast?
One tried and true method for me is simple – Wherever you are, focus on doing something good for the person in front you at that time. Nothing else. This presence and orientation are a game changer by pushing us to do the following things:
• It is an antidote to our Egos and our own bu****it we tell ourselves.
• It forces us to do good for goods sake.
It orients you to a rule that drives you to bring value everywhere around you regardless of who, what, when, and where.
The bonus is that you get more “PRACTICE” doing something that is difficult and worthwhile at the same time, and we could all use more of that.
Most humans are driven by two things – the fear of blame or exclusion, or the desire for praise and attention, and these, left unchecked or not “practiced”, drive our behavior, actions, and where we put our intention.
Against this framework, here is my challenge to our StoneCutter community – to spend the next 90 days breaking the bonds of the learned and deadly behavior of seeking EXTERNAL VALIDATION.
We will do that by teaching ourselves the value of doing good, for goods sake.
How will we do this? Here is the game if you will join me.
Commit to simply doing things for others or yourself that you know would earn you praise, validation, all the stuff we know are good for us and others, AND, DO NOT TELL A SINGLE PERSON!!!!
DO GOOD, AND TRY NOT TO GET CAUGHT. DO IT FOR THE SAKE OF DOING IT.
If you join me in doing this, I am certain you will find the following.
You will cultivate a more deliberate life.
You will focus on the actual actions and behaviors that will cultivate a more deliberate life and that you want to embody – NOT PRETEND TO EMBODY.
The goal is to come to the recognition that un-validated actions help both you, and your world, without the external nonsense we chase to our detriment.
Let us be dangerous together.
Come Pound the Rock, do good things, and TRY NOT TO GET CAUGHT.
