I am one of those who was super skeptical of how Beachbody would work for me and how Shakeology would taste. I have issues with tastes and textures when it comes to nutritional supplements and shakes. I had tried almost every protein and nutritional shake on the planet. As a post gastric bypass patient protein is crucial, but it had been a challenge getting my recommended 60 grams of protein daily. As a result of gastric bypass, I went from a women's size 32 to a ladies size 14, but I regained weight as a result of not working out regularly and ended back in an 18 with 28 pounds gained back. Surgery was just a tool, not a cure all; and I had to get back on track, and although it did change my life, I needed accountability and encouragement and something to energize me and keep me from snacking. I was hesitant to participate in my first Challenge Group (30 Days to Great), but I ended up loving it! I am almost done with my 2nd Challenge Group (Hip Hop Abs Challenge), and I am now almost finished with the Focus T25 Challenge. Challenge Groups have changed my life. Shakeology curbs my appetite, energizes me, keeps me regular, and keeps me from snacking on junk! To date, I have lost 10.4 lbs (avg of 0.9 per week, which is recommended to be a healthy amount), and I have lost 25.5 inches. The kids have participated with me and they love the shakes and smoothies that I make us with Shakeology! This is why I became a Team Beachbody Coach. There’s no magic pill or drink or procedure that can replace the hard work of building muscle and creating a calorie deficit to burn fat. It takes hard work and commitment, but it also takes patience and planning. No matter how strong you are and much weight you can handle, take it slow and build up, especially if it’s been awhile since you’ve worked your muscles. Nothing is worse than Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) that hits 24-72 hours after you workout. So while you’re doing the work, it may seem effortlessly, but if you overdo it DOMS will hit the day after. Be smart. Set realistic goals. If you do overdo it, be ready to treat yourself to some ibuprofen, ice packs or heating pads, and some rest. Throw in some stretching to help your muscles heal.

It has been over two years since I’ve posted here. Last summer I stuck to a summer training program with my daughter and when the chaos of the school year kicked in, my fitness was put on hold. I haven’t gained any weight over the past year, but I haven’t lost and haven’t done anything to lose until this week. This week, Hannah and I have started to work out again and then Thursday I went in and hit the gym like I hadn’t taken any time off from doing so. As part of my workout, I did 6 sets of 15 squats using the TRX and pushing myself to squat to the floor like my trainer had me doing last summer. I began to to pay for it not too long after I woke up Friday morning and am still in pain despite stretching and massaging. Lesson here is to take it slowly when you start or restart a program. Know you limits and abide by them. Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should on your first week. Time to rise people: but be smart about it.

It has been quite awhile since I've posted anything here, and I have to be honest. I have allowed myself to make excuses for not nourishing my spirit and my body in a manner that is pleasing to God. In fact, it has been in a manner that led to me allowing myself to fall into a few old habits. Some recent things in my life have jolted me into the realization that I have to do better for me: not anyone else. So keep me in prayer as I work on getting rid of my excuses and reprioritizing my life to put me first so I can do what I have to do for everyone else.
