Joe V. Stephens

Mr. Joe V. Stephens, age 78, of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Monroe County Medical Center, surrounded by family. Joe was born in Tompkinsville on June 22, 1947, a son of the late George W. and Pauline (Williams) Stephens. He graduated from Tompkinsville High School in 1965, and married Jo Rita Anderson on September 21, 1977. Joe served as Monroe County Jailer and was the founder of J. Stephens Construction. He was a member of the Tompkinsville First Baptist Church, and an avid UK Basketball Fan, Joe loved spending time with his family at the lake, and farming and riding four wheelers along side the boys.

Joe is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Jo Rita (Anderson) Stephens, two sons, Jarrett Stephens and wife Amanda, and Brooks Stephens and wife Michaela, three grandchildren, Sloan Stephens, Lakelyn and Thad Stephens. One sister, Mary Nell McCleod, of Lexington, mother-in-law, Joan Anderson, brother-in-law, Kerry Anderson and wife Kim, one sister-in-law, Gene Stephens, of Glasgow along with a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, George W. and Pauline Stephens, he was preceded in death by one brother, Wallace Stephens, and his father-in-law, Billy Joe Anderson.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with burial to follow in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Bro. Deven Smith and Bro. Darrick Proffitt will officiate the services.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday morning after 6:30 a.m. until the service time at 12:00 noon.

Pallbearers: Kenny Emmert, Benny Simpson, Mark Hurt, Clifford Stephens, Wes Stephens, and Kerry Anderson

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tompkinsville First Baptist Church in memory of Joe.

Mr. Mark Stephen Murray, age 64, of Gamaliel, Kentucky passed away at his home. Mark was born in Columbus, Indiana on November 11, 1960, a son of the late Vanus C. Murray and Ozina Lee (Bowe) Copas. Mark was a metal fabricator and enjoyed raising chickens. He was a 1978 Graduate of Gamaliel High School, and of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by four children, Chrystal Carson and husband David, Ryan Page, Kayla Page, and Kyle Page, all of Tompkinsville, one grandson, Zane Carson, one sister, Stacey Rosales and husband Jesus, uncle, Selby Murray and wife Sue of Watertown, Tennessee, Norma Jean Davis of Tompkinsville, and Reba Randall, of Orlando, Florida. Special Cousins, Patricia Sheffield, Matthew Sheffield and wife Molly, of Lamb along with a host of extended family and friends also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Connie Copas, Tracy McCandless, Kim Botts, and Debbie Dyer.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the Gamaliel Cemetery with interment to follow. Bro. Mark Bowe will officiate the services.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home prior to the service.

Mrs. Mary Maree (Brown) Bland, age 95, of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the Monroe County Medical Center. Mary was born in Monroe County on September 30, 1930, a daughter of the late Willie and Flora (Monday) Brown. Mrs. Mary was a housewife and enjoyed flower gardening and taking care of her children.

She is survived by four daughters, Betty Goode and husband Casey, Vickie McLaughlin, Virginia Smith, Carolyn Copas and husband Chris. Four sisters, Bertha Butler, Ina Underwood, both of Frankfort, Mennie Woods, and Dellie Copas, both of Red Boiling Springs, twenty-two grandchildren, along with sixty-three great grandchildren, and a host of extended family also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Monk Bland, two sons, Willie Tim Bland, John Tom Bland, two daughters, Flora Annie “Lou” Birge, and Diana Harris, grand-daughter, Vickie Pruitt, grandson, James Bland, great-grandchildren, Bryson Pickerell, Tyler Watson, Skylynn Birge, and Jared Vibbert, along with two sisters, Lillie Mae White and Frances Thomas England, and two brothers, Bedford and William Brown.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with burial to follow in the Bailey Cemetery. Bro. Frankie Tooley will officiate the services.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m.

Mrs. Karen Annett (Jones) Bartley, age 64, of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the Monroe County Medical Center. Karen was born at the War Memorial Hospital in Tompkinsville on March 6, 1961, a daughter of Cecil Dee and the late Emogene (Long) Jones. She married Terry Wayne Bartley on August 27, 1977, in Jackson County, Tennessee. Karen was a 1979 graduate of Tompkinsville High School, and retired from the Monroe County Board of Education, serving the majority as a pre-school instructor at Joe Harrison Carter Elementary. Karen enjoyed antiquing, and going to flea markets for their next find, and shopping sprees with her sister.

Karen is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Terry Wayne Bartley, her father, Cecil Dee Jones, sister, Janice Reagan and husband Harold, brother, Calvin Jones and wife Missy, special niece, Heather Reagan and Fiancé, Chris Graves, and special nephew, Brandon Jones and wife Martha, special great-nieces and great-nephews, Austin, Kendra, Galen, Brody, Emmie, and Kiera, all of Tompkinsville. One brother-in-law, five sisters-in-law, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, and great-nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Emogene Long Jones.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, on Monday, November 3, 2025 from Bartley & Sons Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with burial to follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery, with Jackson Page to officiate the services.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2025 from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. and again on Monday, after 8:00 a.m. until the service time at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bethlehem Cemetery, or the Skaggs Creek Cemetery Fund in memory of Karen.

Mr. Teddy Chapman, age 61, of Tompkinsville, Kentucky passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. Teddy was born at the War Memorial Hospital in Tompkinsville on October 13, 1964, a son of the late William Reggie and Jessie Pearl (Humes) Chapman. Teddy was a 1982 graduate of Tompkinsville High School. Teddy worked for Gamaliel Shooting Supply for twenty years and was a long-time employee of Bailey’s Big Star and Piggly Wiggly, and Patterson’s Butcher Shop.

He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Robbie (Hunter) Chapman, two children, Jessica Shaw, Nick Chapman and his wife Amanda, of Scottsville, son-in-law, Jonathan Shaw, five grandchildren, Abigail and Keaton Shaw, Meleah, Madison, and Makenzie Chapman, two brothers; Tony and wife Lori Chapman, of Cub Run, and Toby and wife Lisa Chapman, of Tompkinsville, niece, Lauren Shirley and husband John, and nephew, Will Chapman. His parents-in-law, Mayme and Darnell Hunter also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Skaggs Creek Cemetery. Bro. Taylor Chandler will officiate the services.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday morning after 7:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home.

Mr. Tim Stewart, age 89, of the Boles Community, of Monroe County, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, October 25, 2025, at Signature Healthcare of Monroe. Tim was born in Monroe County on May 10, 1936, a son of the late Jesse Jackson and Della (Emmert) Stewart. He was a 1957 Graduate from Celina High School, and attended Beech Grove #2 Missionary Baptist Church, Tim retired from Heavy Duty Electric Transformers in Celina, He was an avid UK Basketball fan, and enjoyed working outside, and in the garden.

Tim is survived and loved by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, two brothers, James Mitchell Stewart, William Dent Stewart, and seven sisters, Lucy Elizabeth Arnett, Onie May Coffelt, Irene Stewart, Ora Stewart, Hallie B. Coffelt, Betty Lee Stewart, and Ruth Stewart.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, October 31, 2025, from Bartley & Sons Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with burial to follow in the Mt. Poland Cemetery. Bro. Tim Eaton will officiate the services.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday morning after 8:00 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tim, may be made to Mt. Poland Cemetery, or to the Freedom # 2 Cemetery.

Mr. Jerry Allen Pitcock, age 83, of Glasgow, formerly of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at TJ Samson Community Hospital. Jerry was born in Tompkinsville on November 15, 1941, the son of the late Faye Allen and Ina Jewell (Martin) Pitcock. Jerry was a graduate from Tompkinsville High School, and attended Eastern Kentucky University, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Police Administration. Jerry was a State Farm Insurance Agent for thirty-one years, a deputy sheriff of Monroe County, and a Kentucky State Police officer for several years. He was a member of the Hillvue Heights Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Phyllis (Perkins) Pitcock of Glasgow, two daughters, Jennifer Lynn Gardner and husband Stacy of Hiseville, and Michelle Lynae Graves of Tompkinsville. Seven grandchildren, Chandler Crowe and wife Alyssa, Charity Crowe, Brooks Austin and wife Madison, Andrew Graves and fiancée Ellie, Ashton Graves, Dylan Gardner and wife Emily, and Riley Gardner. Six great-grandchildren, Collins Hamilton, Brennox Crowe, Bryson Austin, Brenna Crowe, Violet Gardner, and Riley Austin. One sister Judith Ann (Pitcock) Kortas, and one niece, Jana Neffendorf and husband Brett also survive.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Faye Allen and Ina Jewell Pitcock.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on October 28, 2025, from Bartley & Sons Funeral Home with burial to follow in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Bro Ray Woody and Bro. Gene Gearlds will officiate the service.

Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning after 8:00 a.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m. at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home.

Pallbearers: Chandler Crowe, Brooks Austin, Andrew Graves, Ashton Graves, Dylan Gardner, and Riley Gardner.

Mr. Reggie Lee Wheeler, age 67, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Monroe County, passed away at his home. Reggie was born in Decatur, Illinois on January 10, 1958, a son of the late Quitera “Quack” Armer and Johnny Ray Wheeler. He joined the United States Army on May 13, 1976, and served proudly until October 30, 1993. After his Military Career, he went on to work as a Driver for Pilot.

He is survived by his father, Johnny Ray Wheeler, of Bugtussle, three daughters; Jennifer Waid, and Bianca Tremel of Deridder, Louisiana, and Lea Ann Walker, of Shepherdsville, three grandchildren; Devin, Lynnix, and Rylynn Waid. Seven brothers; Ronnie Wheeler (Pauletta) of Moss, Terry Wheeler (Angie,) Carline “Tinker” Wheeler, of Tompkinsville, Jeff Wheeler of Red Boiling Springs, Jackie Wheeler of Glasgow, Todd Wheeler (Terri Mae Baskett) of Gamaliel, and John Wheeler (Angela) of Tompkinsville, three sisters; Carol Wheeler, Pinky Wood (Wade) of Gamaliel, and Joanna Geralds (Roger) of Bugtussle. A host of nieces, nephews and extended family also survives.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one brother, David “Smiley” Wheeler, one grandson, Ethan Waid, and his grandparents, David Henry & Flossie Juanita (LaMasters) Armer, and Hubert Carter & Hazel Pearl (Ford) Wheeler.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Wheeler Family Cemetery in Bugtussle, with burial to follow. Jason Thompson will officiate the services. DAV Chapter 20 will perform Military Honors.

Pallbearers: Johnny Ray, Ronnie, Terry, Carline, Jeff, Jackie, Todd and John Wheeler
