***UPDATE PLEASE READ*** The child luring incident from the Georgetown section of Toms River this weekend has been fully investigated by our Detective Bureau. The person of interest has been identified and interviewed along with members of his family. It has been determined that there was no criminal intent to lure or cause any harm to the children.

At the conclusion of the investigation all parents and children involved have been updated of the outcome. These children acted appropriately doing exactly what they should have done when approached by a stranger. We commend them for their actions and their parents for alerting authorities.

On Saturday September 28, 2019 at approximately 4:45 PM multiple police units responded to the Georgetown section of Toms River to investigate two separately reported child luring incidents. The first incident occurred at Chippewa Dr. and Apache Dr., the second incident was nearby in the area of Shawnee Drive. It was reported to police communications that a white male, heavy set, with a bald head and goatee facial hair, wearing a light gray or white top, was operating a light gray or silver/champagne SUV in the area, possibly attempting to lure children to his vehicle. The investigation revealed the suspect vehicle was light gray or silver/champagne in color and is an older model (late 1990's/early 2000's) sports utility vehicle.
In both interactions, the children removed themselves from the situation, and notified their parents, who contacted the police. Police are continuing to investigate this matter, and remain in the area with extra patrols.

We are aware of neighborhood postings on social media sites and appreciate the cooperation of our residents. If you have seen the pictured vehicle and/or a man fitting the above description please contact Officer Michael McDonald at the Toms River Police Department at 732-349-0150 x 1366 or mmacdonald@trpolice.org.

Squad 17 Attends 4th of July Flag Resining Ceremony

4th of July is undoubtedly the busiest time of year down the Shore, and for good reason - it’s full of fun for the whole community. On July 4th Squad members attended the annual Normandy Beach Flag Raising Ceremony where members of the Ocean Beach Volunteer Fire Company - NJ raise the American flag high above the community. Numerous groups attend and participate in the ceremony including a bagpipe band, veterans organizations, and there is even a flyover by a local aviation club. A great tradition enjoyed by all!

Squad 17 Members Lead 4th of July Bike Parade

The summer season down the Shore is in full swing! Families and friends got together this past holiday week for the annual Normandy Beach 4th of July Children’s Bike Parade. Squad members were on hand with an ambulance to lead the parade through the neighborhood, along with our specialized H1 Hummer Ambulance to bring up the rear. A wonderful Shore area tradition the Squad is happy to partake in every year!
