Melasma, also known as pregnancy mask. Melasma is a common skin condition that causes brown, tan or grayish brown patches of discoloration, most often on the face. Patches appear as dark, irregular spots or patches on the skin. Melasma commonly develops on the sun-exposed areas of the face, including the forehead, cheeks, bridges of the nose, chub and above the upper lip. It can also appear on the neck and forearms. The exact cause is unknown but certain factors can trigger/worsen it such as sun exposure, hormonal changes. Typically requires professional treatments to lighten unwanted pigment.
