Matisse Williams Horse Constellations + Creative Mentorship. Transpersonal Psychology, MA

Matisse is a writer and teacher whose work explores the connection between the natural world and feminine creative power. Her graduate studies focused on creative expression, transformation and eco-spirituality. Invoking the ancestors, animals, and archetypes as allies, she offers inspiring immersive experiences to unleash the powers of Evolutionary Creativity. She weaves together the technologies of the Ancient Future: earth, breath, sound, story and herd, to create intimate containers for re-membering, reclamation, and re-creatrion. Through mentorship and constellation circles, she guides others to clarify their vision, speak their truth, and live their dharma. Matisse facilitates Systemic Constellations with her herd of 5 horses in the Ojai Valley, California.

6th Valentine’s Day with you. 120 days married. Baby coming in 60(ish) days. What a life, my love. What a life.

This year, our canyon burned and we moved.
Last year, we found our way back to each other.
Two years ago, our home had flooded from severe storms.
Three years ago, you built me a bath house and a garden.
Four years ago, I moved across country with a herd of horses to live with you and give it all a shot.
Five years ago, we were eating oysters in a speak easy in NYC falling in love as covid swept over the world.

Next year, our daughter will be ten months old. She is so truly blessed to have a papa like you as her first love. ❤️

✨ The Eyes of a Horse: Beauty and Function ✨

Have you ever noticed the gentle, soulful gaze of a horse? Their eyes are not only captivating but also one of their greatest tools for survival and connection. 🐴

Here are some fascinating facts about horse eyes:

🌍 Nearly 360° Vision: With their wide-set eyes, horses can see almost everything around them except directly in front of their noses and directly behind their tails. This panoramic view helps them detect predators or sudden movement.

🌗 Night Vision Masters: Horses have excellent night vision thanks to a reflective layer in their eyes called the tapetum lucidum. This layer helps them gather light in the dark, perfect for navigating under moonlight.

🌈 Color Perception: While horses don’t see the full spectrum of colors as humans do, they can distinguish blues and yellows. Reds, however, appear as shades of gray to them.

🌀 Motion Sensitivity: Horses are highly attuned to motion. Even the smallest movement in their peripheral vision can catch their attention—one reason they seem so alert and aware.

🧘‍♀️ Eyes that Reflect Emotion: Beyond their biology, horse eyes often mirror their mood and energy. A soft, relaxed gaze signals calm, while wide eyes can indicate fear or excitement.

👁️ Largest on Land: horses have the largest eyes of any land mammal. The only animals with larger eyes than horses are whales, seals, and ostriches.

Horses don’t just see their environment—they feel it, sensing energy and intention with every glance. To look into their eyes is to experience a connection that’s deeply rooted in instinct, wisdom, and trust.

« Horses & Hearing »
• Sensitive Hearing: Horses have highly sensitive ears that can pick up sounds humans cannot detect. They can hear frequencies from 14 Hz to 25 kHz, while humans hear between 20 Hz and 20 kHz.

•. Rotating Ears: Horses can rotate their ears 180 degrees independently using 10 different muscles. This allows them to pinpoint the direction of sounds without moving their heads.

• Alert to Subtle Sounds: Their ability to detect faint or distant noises helps them sense potential predators or environmental changes, a trait carried from their wild ancestors.

• Communication via Ears: Horses also “listen” visually, using ear movements to communicate with each other and express emotions, such as curiosity or agitation.

• Better Hearing Than Sight: Horses rely more on their hearing than their vision in many situations, especially in low light, as their hearing provides a more complete sense of their surroundings.

• Respond to Tone: Horses are attuned to the tone of a human voice and can distinguish between calm, soothing tones and harsh, angry ones.

These abilities make horses highly attuned to their environment and the people interacting with them.
