So along with the every day repairs every now and then I get a hair to make something beautiful. This is a drawn out process and I take great pride in makeing things as close to perfect as I can. This is a 1940’s Conn C melody saxophone. What is a C melody saxophone, you may ask? It was so players could play along with popular sheet music (like piano or voice music) without transposing, as the instrument is in concert pitch (Key of C). There will be a video to come once I finish. 🙂

Bear with me. Had a phone conversation with one of my older clients that I hadn’t heard from in a couple of years, honestly thought she had stopped playing or found another to take care of her instruments. In our conversation about her instrument she expressed how she wanted to get it shined up and playing right so she could show her grand children, for a final concert, how grandma used to be a great player. Holy cow did this mess with me.

I have a ton of respect for this person. Her children are also phenomenal players, a few Christmas’ ago I delivered a couple instruments to her in Kansas City to ensure her granddaughter received her gift and I got the privilege to sit in on them playing Christmas tunes together. It truly was an experience.

I almost broke down on the phone because the realization of how we all will eventually lose skills and talents that once made us. She is an amazing lady, touched many lives, and I know her passion lives on through those she has taught and is currently teaching.

I guess the moral of this story is, be an awesome person and share your passion with others while you can.

What a year it has been thus far. Just wanted to let folks know what has been going on since I haven’t posted much here recently. We now have a 14 month old toddler running around with a mouth full of teeth, 18 month molars already. Business is chugging along at a slow pace, but it is chugging. Hope everyone finishes the week off in good spirits. Cheers .

Oh what fun it is to find technician secrets. There is a substantial dip in this side E tone hole. Upon investigation, the post had been resoldered and if you look closely, they used a sanding dremel wheel to clean up the solder run off. Not only digging into the body but also touching the tone hole. There was an attempt to file the tone hole, almost to the body. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Do not fear! We can build up that tone hole with some brass stock. Punch out the size you need, and solder in place. I will clean it up with some filing to ensure it is level.
