Our team visited Wilbert Vault in Kansas City for hands-on training focused on cemetery vaults and their manufacturing process.
We are sometimes asked why a burial vault is needed and what purpose it serves. A casket is designed to enclose the body, while the outer burial container, commonly known as a vault, encloses the casket. The vault helps sustain the weight of the earth above and protects the casket from the elements. For families who choose cremation with urn burial, an urn vault serves the same purpose by protecting the urn. Most cemeteries require an outer burial container to help preserve the integrity of the grave space and prevent settling caused by earth and heavy machinery.
