Out of all the stories we've shared in our HUMAN campaign, this is the first to be a direct message to all of you.

It comes from Casey, a name we use to protect their privacy, and it’s written for anyone finding their way through recovery, one day at a time.

Support Local Families, Every Dollar Makes a Difference!

Right now, families across Topeka are facing difficult choices, having to decide whether to buy food, pay rent, or keep the lights on. Through Block Talks, a community initiative under Prevention and Resiliency Services (PARS), we’re helping neighbors connect with one another, access resources, and meet urgent needs through our Mutual Aid Program.

Each day, neighbors reach out for help. Many of our neighbors have already spent what little they had trying to reach food drives, keep up with rising bills, or replace essentials after emergencies. That’s where we step in, and where your support can make an immediate difference.

How Your Donation Helps
$6 provides a hot dinner for a family of five, prepared and delivered through Block Talk neighborhood meals.
$10 helps us supply diapers, wipes, or baby formula for struggling parents.
$20 provides a full winter outfit for each family member in a household of five.
$50 helps restore internet access or a phone line, keeping a family connected to school, work, and emergency resources.
$100 can help a neighbor cover part of their rent or utility bill, preventing homelessness or service shutoffs.
No donation is too small, and every dollar goes directly to meeting real, local needs.

About Block Talks
Block Talks are neighbor-led gatherings that build community, reduce isolation, and connect families with essential resources. Together, we’ve helped dozens of households find stability, hope, and support through shared meals, community cleanups, and emergency assistance. When neighbors care for one another, we create safer, stronger, and more resilient communities.

How You Can Help
Donate directly, sponsor a Block Talk meal, or partner with us to provide goods and services. Every contribution, whether it’s financial, in-kind, or volunteer time, helps us make sure no one in our community is left behind.

To learn more or make a donation, contact PARS at 785-267-2963 or email ihuckins@parstopeka.org.

Promoting Healthy Behaviors

PARS works to promote healthy behaviors through educational programs and presentations for youth, schools, adults, and community groups. PARS serves as a resource for up-to-date information and resources on the impacts of alcohol, to***co, va**ng, and other drugs. We collaborate with community partners to promote substance abuse prevention messages and we facilitate a Substance Abuse Task Force that is addressing priority community concerns.
