Hetlinger it’s a fantastic organization who takes great pride and care of their greenhouse. If you are in the Emporia area, we would encourage you to stop by and support an amazing organization.

Mark your calendars for May 4th– May 8th! Hetlinger is hosting our annual
Spring Plant & Art Sale, featuring a beautiful selection of plants and
unique artwork—perfect for welcoming the season. The sale will run
Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 1 PM, and for the first time
ever, we will also be open in the evenings on Tuesday and Thursday
from 4 PM to 6 PM.

Support the amazing participants who work in the greenhouse while
they learn valuable job skills and gain hands-on experience. The work
they do is incredibly meaningful, helping them develop different
aspects of a job—from responsibility and teamwork to problemsolving
and daily routines. You’ll also have the chance to shop artwork
created by our talented artists through Hetlinger Creates, showcasing
their creativity and hard work. Don’t miss it! 🎨🌱😁

Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month recognizes the contributions and experiences of individuals with I/DD. But awareness is the starting point, not the goal. Real impact requires action that helps those we serve lead independent lives. In this ANCOR American Network of Community Options and Resources article, Kyle Simmons, co-president of Guardian Pharmacy Services’ Boomer Solutions, explores how LTC pharmacy support strengthens a community’s ability to deliver person-centered care, helping people with I/DD achieve greater autonomy and live their best lives every day of the year. We had a great time this week connecting with the University of Kansas CCO Ability Advocates!

Executive Director Meghan Shreve and Advocacy & Engagement Coordinator Courtney Herron joined students, faculty, and InterHab members from Cottonwood to talk about what advocacy can look like at every level, whether you’re speaking up for yourself or standing alongside others.

From small, everyday actions to larger system-level change, these conversations matter and it was inspiring to see so much interest and engagement around building those skills.

We also had some exciting discussions about future collaboration, and we’re looking forward to what’s ahead. Thanks to everyone who joined us and continues to be part of this important work!

Thank you, ability advocates for displaying artwork from two of our members, JCDS and Cottonwood Inc.
