The direct support workforce crisis remains the biggest barrier keeping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families from accessing the home- and community-based services (HCBS) they rely on.

As states lose the COVID-era funding that temporarily boosted wages and benefits, providers are struggling to fill the gaps left behind—now made even wider by the $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts signed into law on July 4. Read ANCOR’s latest findings in their all-new report on the direct support workforce crisis: https://www.ancor.org/resources/the-state-of-americas-direct-support-workforce-crisis-2025/?utm_source=toolkit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=workforce25

Troubling findings from ANCOR's sixth annual survey of the ways community-based providers of disability services are feeling the impact of the direct support workforce crisis.

At Futures we hosted dental checks and handed out over 200 smile kits to children & families in our community. 🦷 Smile kits included age-appropriate toothbrushes, toothpastes, and dental floss.

A special thank-you to Dr. Small, our friend and a longtime provider in our area, for conducting oral-health checks for children in our program. Thank you also to Delta Dental of Kansas for donating the kits each year.

Good oral health really matters. We encourage children and families to build daily oral habits like teeth-brushing and flossing. There is strong evidence that poor oral health in children can affect their ability to learn, concentrate, and perform at school.

When families and children have access to simple tools and good education, it supports their well-being now and later.
