While on our trip to our IAFF 2nd District leadership symposium, we hand delivered a check for your contributions to our Muscular Dystrophy Association district representative. Multiple presenters on Firefighter's health and wellness issues including the advances in cancer detection and treatment. A touching personal testimony from Kansas firefighter on how the International Association of Fire Fighters resources made a critical impact on his treatment and recovery. Cancer is not an "if" issue with firefighter, it is a "when" issue. There is staggering data on the increased likelihood that Firefighters will contract nearly every type of cancer compared to non-firefighters. Early detection is the key, and Local 83 executive board members have added that initiative the top of their list of topics to fight for!
