We’re proud to recognize Cynthia Rivas, RN (4E Burn ICU), as Torrance Memorial’s latest DAISY Award recipient!
Cynthia went above and beyond to comfort and empower a patient recovering from devastating burn injuries. By taking the time to understand her patient’s fears, explain each step of care, and add small touches of compassion—like Country Western music—Cynthia transformed moments of fear into calm, even laughter.
Her empathy and expertise are what make truly exceptional.
Congratulations, Cynthia!

Two Nurses, One Extraordinary Moment!

We’re thrilled to honor Vanessa Hernandez, RN, and Ashley Comensky, RN, with the DAISY Award for going above and beyond during a challenging patient case in Pediatrics. When IV access was difficult, they advocated for an ultrasound-guided placement, ensuring care with compassion, skill, and minimal pain.

The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who create remarkable patient experiences through clinical excellence and extraordinary compassion. Thank you, Vanessa and Ashley, for embodying the very best in nursing!

World Stroke Day is October 29 - Every second counts when it comes to a stroke. Knowing the signs could save a life—maybe even your own.
Remember BE FAST:
🟢Balance – sudden loss of balance
🟢Eyes – sudden vision trouble
🟢Face – drooping on one side
🟢Arms – weakness in one arm
🟢Speech – slurred or strange speech
🟢Time – call 911 right away

Quick action can mean the difference between recovery and disability. Share this and help spread awareness.

Volunteering comes naturally to Dr. Kurt and Erin Hansen, who have been giving back since they were teenagers. The couple first met while volunteering at a camp for children and adults with developmental disabilities, an experience that shaped their lifelong passion for service.

Today, the Hansens continue to make a difference through their involvement with Torrance Memorial’s Young Physicians and Professionals Alliance (YPPA), a group that brings together doctors, business professionals and community leaders to support expert care in the South Bay.

Their story is a reminder that community connection and compassion go hand in hand.

Dr. Kurt and Erin Hansen turn compassion into action—volunteering, raising a family, and supporting Torrance Memorial through YPPA community impact.
