Today marks the day where we should celebrate and it's role in eye protection and vision correction! Eyewear has come a long way since the old school trifocals. It is now both a fashion accessory AND a cornerstone for overall eye health.
👁 The correct eyewear can:
🕶Protect you against harmful UV rays. UVA and especially UVB can damage the eye’s surface tissues, cornea and lens. That damage can lead to cataracts, macular degeneration and other vision-stealing eye conditions. When buying sunglasses, make sure they have a tag or sticker that says they provide 100 percent UV protection from all UV light. Some labels say “UV absorption up to 400nm.” This is the same thing as 100 percent UV absorption.
🕶Prevent potential injuries. The hazards we face in jobs such as construction, healthcare, mechanics, plumbing, and more could harm our sight. A good pair of safety glasses should fit well and provide maximum coverage to minimize risk of chemicals or debris to contact your eyes.

Check with your employer to make sure you have access to the correct eyewear protection if it suits your job. You can also head to your local optometrist to invest in the proper sunglasses or reading eyewear.

You’ve heard that the eyes are the window to the soul—but did you know they’re also a window to your health?

Eating a balanced diet, staying physically active, and other healthy lifestyle choices help to protection your vision as well as your overall health. In fact, there are several health conditions, like diabetes or high blood pressure, that can increase your risk of some eye diseases.

Be sure to get your annual eye exam to ensure optimal eye health 👁

Two of RMI's technicians, Shashine and Megan, presented their abstracts at . The ARVO (Association for Research & Vision in Ophthalmology) Annual Meeting was held in Salt Lake City, Utah last week. It is the premiere gathering for eye and vision scientists from across the globe, at all career stages, students, and those in affiliated fields to share the latest research findings and collaborate on innovative solutions.

While at ARVO, Shashine and Megan presented their research and networked with medical school students and current physicians who work in the industry. It is a huge honor to have an abstract accepted at ARVO, and just shows the hard work these two have put in. Congratulations Shashine & Megan! You both have a bright future ahead of you and we are so proud to have you!

After participating in the recent annual American Society of Retina Surgeons (ASRS) meeting held in Stockholm, Sweden, we were delighted to see the data update on new treatments for the geographic atrophy form of AMD. Retina Macula Institute has now submitted our novel data on Syfovre and Izervay in patients with both GA and wet AMD, reporting comparable results to the clinical trial data for treatment of GA alone!

We are closing in on new curative treatments for AMD. A new molecule in development, "efdamrofusp alfa", addresses both the dry and wet form of the disease. While safety data has been published, as a Reviewer for the major ophthalmology and Retina journals, Dr. Gallemore has been able to see the pipeline data. We also continue to publish our own studies.

Stem cell and gene therapy approaches for treatment of AMD carry greater promise as we develop optimal strategies for addressing immune responses to the treatments under study. Topical Difluorednate, a molecule we first published on previously, has been far more effective than oral prednisone for suppressing reactions!
