Magnesium has gained attention as a potential sleep aid, with research suggesting it may help some people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. While generally safe, supplements are not one-size-fits-all, and benefits can vary based on age, health status, and underlying conditions.

Are you having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep? Contact the Torrance Memorial Sleep Disorders Center at 310-517-8950 to speak with a sleep expert and find the right solution for you.

Honoring Our Medical Social Workers

This March, we recognize the invaluable role of Medical Social Workers in supporting patients across every stage of care. Whether in the Emergency Department, Home Health, Oncology, Palliative Care, Hospice, or Ambulatory Services, our dedicated Social Workers provide emotional support, advocacy, and resource coordination to help patients navigate complex medical journeys.

From ensuring a safe discharge plan to helping families cope with serious illness, these professionals bring compassion and expertise to every interaction. Their work empowers patients, reduces barriers to care, and promotes healing in the hospital, at home, and beyond.

💙 Join us in celebrating our Social Workers and the impact they make every day!

Every great superhero story has a battle, and in nutrition, the real fight isn’t against food, it’s against confusion and misinformation.

While diet fads and fear-based headlines try to turn food into the enemy, the real heroes show up every day on our plates. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins work together as a powerful team, delivering the nutrients our bodies need for energy, heart health, digestion, strong bones, and overall well-being. No hype. No extremes. Just consistent, evidence-based support.

That’s the message behind this year’s National Nutrition Month theme, “Discover the Power of Nutrition.” It’s an invitation to tune out the noise, leave the villains behind, and focus on balanced, nourishing choices that help you feel your best; one meal at a time.

Seed oils are having a viral moment — often blamed for inflammation while alternatives like beef tallow are framed as “healthier.”

But when you look at the full body of research, the story is far more consistent:
✔️ Seed oils aren’t toxic
✔️ Omega-6 fats don’t cause inflammation in typical amounts
✔️ Replacing saturated fat with unsaturated fat supports heart health

The bigger issue? Ultra-processed foods — not the oil you use at home.

Eating disorders affect millions of people and have one of the highest mortality rates of any mental health condition. Knowing how to support someone — what to say, what to avoid, and when to encourage professional care — can make a real difference.

The Torrance Memorial Eating Disorders Medical Unit provides acute care services for adolescents and young adults who are experiencing medical complications as a result of a severe eating disorder. Our program is designed for individuals who are too medically unstable to enter treatment at an outpatient or residential treatment program.
