Stevon Lewis, LMFT

Stevon Lewis, LMFT Psychotherapist focused on the treatment of Impostor Syndrome in adults. In my private practice I work with individuals suffering from Impostor Syndrome.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC 52608), speaker, and corporate consultant. I assist clients with understanding the scope of their impostorism, its origin, and reducing negative symptoms and behaviors that have developed over time as a result of Impostor Syndrome. My goal as a therapist, is to assist with developing solutions, gaining insight, and modifying behavior to bring about more happiness, satisfaction, and a sense of understanding in one's life. Together we will work to uncover the underlying influences of your thoughts, emotions and behaviors to create meaningful, positive, and lasting change in your life. I have been a featured expert for various major television and media platforms. I was a Resident Therapist on the first season of, the unscripted series, Love Goals, on the Oprah Winfrey Network, have been a guest on The Love Hour podcast (For Men Only and Group Therapy) hosted by KevOnStage, and a guest on the Mike and Donny Show on Fox Soul TV. I have been featured as an expert in several articles on major online platforms including, Bustle Magazine, Thrive Global, and Entrepreneur Magazine. As a corporate consultant, I have facilitated discussions about race in the workplace for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) and Tory Burch. In addition, I have hosted a series of workshops for A New Direction, a London-based non-profit, that provides support and development to individuals that are underrepresented in the creative and digital industries.

Radical Acceptance of Self is the ability to be proud of yourself and what you've accomplished WHILE you continue to grow and evolve to be and achieve so much more.

WHAT vs WHEN

Overthinking is the Achilles heel for many high achievers. It's rooted in a belief/fear that turmoil is always around the next corner and you have to be prepared to survive or better yet avoid it.

While you were engaged in all that thinking you were doing, did you ever consider that you've already been down the road before? That is, that at some point you will have to make a decision and then make adjustments, if necessary, along the way, so that you can reach success...essentially what you do on a daily basis because, oh you know, you can't predict the future 🙄😮‍💨✌🏿🚶🏿‍♂️

I'm not going to hold you, but do a quick audit of what you spend most of your time thinking about..

Is it the more positive things, what's going well, things you're confident in, your recent successes etc....?

ORRRRRRRRR

Are you spending more time thinking about where you made a minor mistake, outdated narratives that aren't accurate for where you are today, instances when someone's behavior was slightly off etc...?

Now tell me how you feel about who you are? I'll wait I got time today!

Invalidating your accomplishments might sound like you:

- Noticing any imperfections
- Identifying where your performance could have been better
- Pointing out that someone else performed better
- Suggesting your performance is only a small improvement
- Focusing on future goals you hope to accomplishment instead of celebrating what you have just accomplished
- Deflecting praise and compliments

Try staying present in your current accomplishment and separate noticing the good from noticing where improvement can be made.

I love this mindset! Donna Summer was connected to her talent and abilities, and the work and dedication she would need to have in order to reach the success she was destined for.

Make sure your definition of success includes the possibility of adversity and imperfection. Doing so will allow you to remain undeterred when you come up against unpleasantness because it was already baked into the dream you are chasing.

I like to tell people to be balanced! If you spend X amount of time imagining and making up ways about how horrible things could go then spend the same amount of time preparing for things to go well or turn out better than you expected.

Not doing so is like training chest and never doing legs. And you're out here wondering why people don't understand how you're never prepared for the good outcomes you consistently get...it's because you never practiced how to experience good.

Here's a question, how often has the worst-case scenario happened to you? Some of y'all be operating as though it is happening 90% of the time when in reality it's much closer to zero, LOL...it's not even a simple majority and you spent all this time getting ready for it. Make that make sense.
