We are incredibly proud to celebrate Coach Carly, who has been named the 2025 SPMS Open Water Contributor of the Year! An honor recognizing individuals who make lasting contributions to the growth, safety, and excellence of open water swimming.

This award reflects Carly’s dedication to the sport at every level: organizing and supporting open water experiences, prioritizing safety, mentoring swimmers, and inspiring athletes to take on new challenges. Her work introducing younger swimmers to open water, including leading the Chapman University swimmers in the Catalina relay and the MPSF Open Water Championships. This is exactly the kind of impact this award was created to recognize.

And the journey continues…
In 2026, Coach Carly will be training and swimming the English Channel! She will be taking on one of the most iconic and demanding open water challenges in the world.

We are so grateful to have Carly as part of our community and can’t wait to support her every stroke of the way. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! Here’s to the next big adventure ahead!

We finally got to celebrate our speedster this morning, even if his big day was on Sunday!

Johnny’s been part of the LAPS crew for years, always bringing the speed, the smiles, and the best energy to the pool. 🏊‍♂️⚡️

Big thanks to Birthday Bandit Susan for making sure his ride got the full birthday treatment (and for the serenade, of course!). His smile says it all! 💙

Tired doesn’t even begin to cover it. The Pyramid of Doom was in full effect this morning — 200, 400, 600, 800, then all the way back down to 200. 😵‍💫
High fives to the LAPS crew who survived the climb and the descent!
Coach Carly’s back and ready to play!!! Mission complete! 🤩
Time change helped us show up… now we just need a nap. Or a massive breakfast. ☕🍳

Tombstones, witches’ brooms, crazy IMs, and even tandem swims — Coach Sabina (aka the walrus 🦭) had us working hard and having a blast! Huge thanks for taking over while Coach Carly recovers — we missed you, Coach! 💙

It was the perfect mix of hard work, laughs, and Halloween chaos. For the party poopers — don’t worry, you still got a killer workout. 😉

Happy Halloween, LAPS crew! Go grab those tricks and treats and we’ll see you back at the pool tomorrow to swim off all that sugar! 🍭💪👻

Today, our very own Mike O’Donnell was inducted into the Los Angeles Sportswalk of Fame, recognized for his incredible achievements in lifeguarding and Dory racing and the lasting impact he’s had on the community.

The Sportswalk, located in the heart of Old Town San Pedro, honors men and women who’ve made their mark both locally and beyond.

Congratulations, Superman! You continue to inspire us all.

LAPS Gone Wild: Hawaii Edition 🌴

Our LAPS Masters crew traded chlorine for coconut water and crushed the Hapuna Rough Water Swim on June 7th — part two of the open ocean Triple Crown series! One mile of salt, sweat, and sass at the stunning Hapuna Beach State Park, and we’re bringing home the bling:
🥇 Greg said “aloha” to 1st place in his age group
🥈 Dave B surfed into 2nd
🥉 Laurie swam her way to a bronze beauty
🥈 Becky snagged 2nd while still rocking that beach glow

Big waves, bigger vibes, and a whole lotta LAPS love. Hawaii, you’ve officially been lapped.
