🌟 Happy Autism Awareness Month🌟

Many children with autism benefit from using AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) to support their communication 💬

AAC can:
✨ Provide visual supports for understanding and using language
✨ Support expressing wants, needs, and choices
✨ Reduce frustration when communication is difficult
✨ Help with participation in daily activities
✨ Build confidence and independence

Families can access AAC through:
✨ Insurance / Medicaid funding
✨ School-based services (IEP)
✨ Free trials from AAC companies

We fondly remember long-time supporter, Peggy Swisher-Piotraschke, who sadly passed away in 2025. Through a tremendous bequest gift left in her estate plan and recently presented to the Clinic, Peggy has created a lasting legacy of helping children. We feel blessed to have known Peggy and sincerely appreciate her dedication to making a difference in the lives of children. Hi families! 👋 Did You Know You Can Borrow Assistive Technology?

If your child uses assistive technology as part of their speech or learning goals, this can be a helpful way to explore tools that support the strategies recommended by your child’s SLP or school team. Families can borrow a variety of devices—such as AAC devices, tablets/iPads with communication apps, computer access tools, vision or hearing supports, and daily living aids.

Devices can typically be borrowed for about 5 weeks and are shipped to borrowers at no cost, making it easier for families across Missouri to try technology that may support communication.

This can be a great option if:
• You want to try a communication device before purchasing
• Your child’s current device is being repaired
• You want to explore tools that might support speech, learning, or daily tasks

The device loan program offers Missourians a wide variety of assistive technology for use during device trials, when personal devices are in for repair or for exploration.
