Thinking about adding these sweet “Just Because” mini-sheet cakes to the menu for special orders. What do you think?

The kids loved a cake without any birthday or holiday attached to it. “Just Because” was a fun way for me to say I love you.

Cake choices: Golden Vanilla or Classic Chocolate
Frosting choices: Vanilla or Chocolate Buttercream
Naturally colored sprinkles

These are 6 x 8 inches and serve 2-4 (give or take who has a fork). They also freeze really well.

So, bread family…how say you? Is this a new menu item? If yes, I’ll work on the order details and let you know where we land. If no, then Gerry has cake this week🤭

SUPER excited to get this amazing book in the house and a chance to hear talk about it today !

My sister and I had the chance to take her class on empanadas at the Kneading Conference . I think we both ordered a tortilla press as soon as the class ended. Roxanne’s first book, Mother Grains, is a beautiful exploration of whole grains, lovely recipes and a great read.

This is the part where my kids tell me to chill on the fangirl mode but not gonna😉. I get excited listening to amazing and inspirational folks.

Our Bakehouse Oven Fund on Hotplate is live (link in bio)!

Thanks to your incredible support over the last five years, our cottage bakery has officially outgrown our home kitchen. We are thrilled to share that we are building a dedicated bakehouse to increase our production and efficiency, allowing us to bring even more artisan bread and baked goods to our community, pop-up events and neighborhood farmers markets.

The Goal
To make this dream a reality, we need to purchase a professional bread oven. As the heart of our new bakehouse, this essential piece of equipment will allow us to bake with the consistency and volume that our growing community deserves. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to fund the purchase and installation of this oven.

Wanna see what the Bakehouse looks like now?

It’s a beautiful, blank canvas and closer to us getting in there! Finishing the floor and then move-in time.

We are officially launching our “Bakehouse Oven Fund” tomorrow via Hotplate. Gerry & I are beyond excited about setting up the new space for increased production and more efficient baking. A professional bread oven is essential to making more bread and baked goods for our growing Heart in Hand Bread community, pop-up events and neighborhood farmers markets. We will post the link tomorrow and how you can get involved!

Thanks for all of the lovely feedback on the new porch front too! We appreciate you choosing to come and get your bread from our house and want your experience to be comfortable and easy.

My baking time is usually spent making items for the weekly menu (and often large quantities) but today was different. Overripe bananas mean either I freeze, eat or, if I have time, make banana bread. When I mentioned to Gerry I was going to make banana bread, he got a wide grin and asked “with chocolate chips?”. I agreed and I saw how happy that made him.

Simple, right? Sometimes, it can be.

My mom made banana bread for almost everyone she knew and rarely went to church, school or a personal appointment without one wrapped up and ready to go in the car. Baking for people made her happy and they were happy to receive it. We served her banana bread at her memorial service a few years ago with a copy of the recipe.

She would get such a kick out of what I am doing now. We started our bakery just as the pandemic hit and dementia was stealing her away from us. I never got the chance to tell her about this amazing community we bake for or how deep, down, soul happy I am doing this.

So making this banana bread today, with chocolate chips, was a chance to visit. Even used one of her pans.

Bonus points: I was feeling guilty (?) for not remembering her recipe by heart and tried to find it on a scrap stuffed in one of my oldest cookbooks. I found my now grown son’s kindergarten handouts about banana bread instead.

She would have gotten a kick out of that too.
