Abundant thanks to our wonderful partners at GBMC - Greater Baltimore Medical Center for an incredible Caregivers Expo last week! GBMC is such a wonderful place to work- they care so much about the well being of their employees, and this resource fair for their employees is just one example- the goal of which was to provide resources for GBMC employees who work so valiantly to support their GBMC patients and families, while often they are also caring for their own loved ones. There were a few hundred employees who attended the event, and countless GBMC staff raved about Avila Home Care- they either have referred Avila to their patients, or have had Avila serve someone in their own family. "Avila is my favorite!" and "Avila's Caregivers are amazing- we refer our patients to you all the time!" were just a couple of complements shared. Avila's partners at Gilchrist Cares, and our friends at Alzheimer's Association, Greater Maryland Chapter, Mend Acupuncture - Baltimore, Maryland Doula Collective as well as many other resources for GBMC's employees were all there to provide support.

Happy Halloween! Avila staff displayed some early morning Halloween spirit with Jill as an avocado from Mexico, Nicki as a female Freddy Krueger, Will (aka Peter Parker) as Spiderman, Gretchen as a witch, as well as a visit from two cute little bats (pups Percy and Remi)! Hope you all have a Spooktacular Day!!

Avila Home Care is On The Road! Will Cox, Avila's CEO, was joined by Maria Geronimo (Anne Arundel Regional Manager) and KC Bozeka (Senior Client Services Manager) at the 2025 Home Care Association of America National Conference in Dallas, Texas! ​This is THE national conference for home care organizations offering personal care, with the goal of helping agencies grow and enhance their services to meet the growing needs of older Americans, individuals with disabilities, and Veterans. Will, Maria and KC learned the latest about current issues, innovative trends, and successful strategies to strengthen Avila's ability to serve seniors. Go Team!

"It was Mrs. Peacock, in the Library, with the Wrench!" exclaimed Avila's victorious Gretchen Maneval at Symphony Manor of Roland Park's fantastic who-dunnit mystery event while playing Hasbro Games' boardgame Clue! This fancy new version of Clue was delightful (albeit a bit different from the 1977 version that Gretchen has been playing for the last several decades :-)!) Amber, Gina and Stacy from Symphony Manor were wonderful hosts, and it was such fun competing and winning...I mean spending time with...our friends at The Option Group, Maryland Masonic Homes, The Beacon Newspapers, Sage Health, Little Sisters of the Poor St. Martins Home, and more friends who valiantly serve seniors in our community! Susie from Little Sisters remarked on what an extraordinary job Avila's Anne Arundel Regional Manager, nurse Maria Geronimo, recently did assessing a client's needs. Susie commended Maria for her excellent care, and for going above and beyond. Following the mystery event, it was lovely meeting several of Symphony Manor's residents as they enjoyed their afternoon social hour. Looking forward to more good times with Symphony Manor!

It is with tremendous gratitude that our Avila Home Care team celebrates our Director of Operations Michele Steele- we bid her farewell and send her best wishes as she embarks on a new season in her career! Eight years ago, Michele's vision and dedication helped build Avila Home Care from a few staff and clients to the incredible team it is today- 30 office staff and 600 Caregivers serving 250 clients. Avila's Founder Danny O'Brien reflects, "When I think of Michele, a few wonderful characteristics shine forth. The first is her integrity. Michele is someone who is deeply committed to doing the right thing, no matter what. The second is that Michele is a dedicated hard worker- whatever is needed and however long it takes, Michele is willing to do. Third, Michele is an extremely capable person who takes on new challenges with optimism and enthusiasm. We will miss her tremendously, but we are so grateful for her service to Avila's clients and Caregivers for all these years." Avila's CEO Will Cox says he "greatly admires Michele for her courage and her wonderful leadership- she's loyal and steadfastly reliable, and always there for her team and Avila's clients and their families. Michele goes above and beyond every single day." Our Avila office team had the opportunity to praise Michele during a celebratory lunch last week- there were lots of accolades and many beautiful memories shared. We adore you, Michele and we wish you the best! AND we give a very warm welcome to Melanie Conley, who will join Avila's team as our new Caregiver Relations Manager. With a degree in HR and many years of experience, Melanie's expertise and her heart of service will support Avila's Caregivers and clients so that all will flourish. Will Cox shares, "I have the upmost confidence that Melanie will carry on Michele's legacy of hospitality, appreciation and excellence at Avila."

We are so happy to announce that our Caregiver of the Month for September 2025 is Rebecca Okwor! Rebecca is a kind, dependable, and hard-working Caregiver who is always willing to help when needed. Her clients truly love and appreciate her, often sharing how much her care and presence mean to them. Over the past year, Rebecca has shown incredible strength and dedication, continuing to support her clients with compassion and reliability. Her commitment to caregiving has never wavered, and we are so grateful to have her on our Avila team!

Thanks very much to the wonderful team at Heritage Harbour, Annapolis: The Ideal Place to Retire for inviting Avila Home Care to have an information table at their annual Health Fair! Avila's CEO Will Cox, Maria Geronimo (Anne Arundel Regional Manager), and Avila's fantastic new Business Developer in Annapolis, Emalie Crawford had a fantastic time meeting residents and their friends and family, as well as many seniors from the greater community. We look forward to next year :-)!
