At Springbrook Autism Behavioral Health, we recognize March as Disability Awareness Month and proudly celebrate the unique strengths, perspectives, and resilience of children and adolescents with autism!

Every day, we have the privilege of supporting remarkable young people who experience the world in their own way, often with incredible curiosity, creativity, determination, and insight. Their individuality enriches our communities and reminds us that differences are something to be valued and embraced.

We are continually encouraged by the resilience, growth, and progress we witness in the youth we serve.

Disability Awareness Month is a time to celebrate inclusion, understanding, and the incredible youth who bring so much strength and perspective to our communities. We are honored to walk alongside the children, adolescents, and families we support. 💙🧩🦋

March is Social Work Month, and at Springbrook Autism Behavioral Health, we’re proud to celebrate the incredible social workers who show up every day for the children and adolescents with autism we are privileged to serve! 💙

Supporting young people with autism requires more than clinical skill, it requires patience, creativity, and a deep commitment to understanding each young person as an individual. Our social workers bring all of that and more. From the first point of contact through the admissions process, to providing direct therapeutic support across our Acute Autism and PRTF units, to advocating for individualized services, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and coordinating thoughtful discharge planning, their work is steady, skilled, and full of heart.

Pictured here from left to right: Leslie Chamorro, PRTF Therapist; Victoria Frye, Utilization Management Coordinator; Christie Phillip, Admissions Counselor; Camden Freeman, Eden Clinical Unit Director and PRTF Therapist; Vonette Holmes, Horizon Clinical Unit Director, Lead Therapist, and PRTF Therapist; and Kate Tate, Acute Autism Unit Therapist.

Each of these social workers contributes compassion, clinical expertise, and a genuine commitment to helping the young people in our care stabilize, build meaningful skills, and move toward greater independence, one individualized step at a time.

To the social workers on our team and to social workers everywhere, thank you! The advocacy, dedication, and passion you bring to this work matters more than words can say.

Happy Social Work Month! ✨

Our residents at Springbrook Autism Behavioral Health got to explore the night sky yesterday without ever leaving the gym! 🪐

The Roper Mountain Science Center’s Portable Planetarium transformed our space into a calm, immersive dome where residents traced constellations, marveled at planets, and took in sweeping views of the Milky Way. The format was a natural fit with low sensory overwhelm, structured engagement, and genuine wonder in an environment our team could thoughtfully tailor to the needs of the children and adolescents we serve.

Experiences like this matter. Curiosity, social connection, and emotional regulation do not happen in spite of enjoyment. They happen through it.

A huge thank you to Lily Howard, RTF Therapist and Clinical Unit Director, and the entire Springbrook Autism team who brought this to life with such care and intentionality. This is what person-centered support looks like in practice! 💫

Our therapists thoughtfully design groups and activities that meet each child’s unique needs, helping them grow in confidence, independence, and joy.

Whether it’s practicing social interaction, learning new coping skills, or simply experiencing success in a fun and supportive environment, their work makes a lasting difference.

Please join us in celebrating the creativity, compassion, and dedication these professionals bring to the individuals and families we serve every day!

When Parenting Becomes Survival Mode is a reality many families know all too well.

In this episode of All Abilities, No Filter, we’re joined by Paul Voss, a father of eight whose life changed when his youngest child was diagnosed with autism. Paul shares the raw, behind-the-scenes truth of parenting through years of exhaustion, sleep deprivation, and emotional burnout while still showing up for a full family.

This conversation isn’t about perfect parenting or clinical theory. It’s about what actually happens when families are pushed into survival mode, and what helped Paul move from constant chaos to a calmer, more intentional home. Along the way, he shares practical changes that didn’t just support his autistic child, but improved life for the entire family including siblings with ADHD.

In this episode, we discuss:

Parenting during extreme exhaustion and sleep loss

Why common advice often doesn’t work in real life

How small environmental changes can create big shifts

The emotional weight parents especially fathers carry silently

Finding hope without minimizing how hard autism can be

This episode is for parents who are tired, overwhelmed, and wondering if it ever gets better. You’re not alone, and survival mode doesn’t have to be permanent.

🌟 Making Magic, Not Meltdowns: Your Autism Holiday Strategy 🎄
The holidays are meant for joy and connection, yet for children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), they often bring a perfect storm of routine changes, sensory overload, and overwhelming social demands.

At Springbrook Autism Behavioral Health, we understand these unique challenges. Our goal is to help families feel supported, understood, and truly prepared. We believe that with the right planning, you can absolutely shift the focus from stress to genuine celebration.

5 Quick Tips for a Thriving Season:

1. Maintain Consistent Routines: Stick to your core sleep and meal schedules as closely as possible. Consistency is your most powerful tool for anchoring against holiday chaos.

2. Visualize the Season: Reduce anxiety by using visual schedules, social stories, and calendars to map out holiday activities, travel, and visits. This ensures predictability every step of the way.

3. Designate a Calm Space: Identify or create a quiet, low-sensory sanctuary at home or at a relative's house. Always have comfort tools like weighted blankets or noise-canceling headphones readily available.

4. Rehearse Social Moments: Practice common holiday interactions, like greeting guests or opening gifts, using simple scripts and setting clear time limits for social engagement.

5. Prioritize Breaks and Preferences: Build in planned breaks and deliberately incorporate preferred activities throughout the day. This is essential for preventing sensory overstimulation and emotional fatigue.

With a little proactive preparation and flexibility, this season can be calmer and more inclusive for everyone. Remember, you are not alone, your unique way of celebrating is perfect for your family!
