Tina Peplinski, RN, was recently honored with a DAISY Award for the leadership and compassion she displayed in caring for a patient at Munson Medical Center.

The patient's mother nominated Tina for dedication that exceeded expectations: “She treated us not just as patients, but as people she truly cared about… When I asked Jacob what made Tina special, he simply said, ‘She cared.’ Those two words meant the world to us.”

Finding a support network can make all the difference for parents of newborns. For Northern Michigan resident Mariana, a Healthy Futures home visit after her daughter’s birth uncovered a hidden condition that could’ve put Mariana’s health at serious risk if left untreated.

This kind of care is priceless — and for Mariana, it was lifesaving.

As we acknowledge Veterans Day, allow us to introduce you to Staff Sergeant Nick and Specialist Meghan Powell, a married couple who work with each other at Munson Healthcare and served together in the military. Together, they’ve contributed over 13 years of service to Munson, on top of what they’ve given to our country.

Nick spent 10 years on active duty in the Army, serving in Iraq and leading the lab at the West Point hospital before coming to Munson, where he is now the Lab Manager for the East Region. Meghan served for four years as a medic and chose to go to nursing school in New York when Nick got his orders to go to West Point. She is now the Assistant Manager of Nursing Services for Otsego Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department.

Celebrating Excellence in Respiratory Care

Munson Medical Center is proud to announce that Ed Lemieur, RRT, RRT-NPS, RRT-ACCS, CPFT, is the most recent recipient of the PHIL Award, recognizing outstanding respiratory therapists who go above and beyond in patient care.

One of Ed’s nominations says it best:

"Ed took the time to collaborate with a community case manager to prevent an unnecessary readmission for a patient with a chronic respiratory illness. He personally delivered education and supplies, demonstrating his deep commitment to patient outcomes and teamwork. Ed is a true expert and a trusted resource for both patients and colleagues."

This year, Ed received three separate nominations, highlighting his calm and expert response in critical situations, dedication to helping patients qualify for oxygen therapy and discharge, and unwavering support for his team and community.

Please join us in congratulating Ed on this incredible and well-deserved honor!

🕰️ Time to Fall Back! 🍂

Daylight saving time ends this Sunday, Nov. 2 — don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour!

While gaining an extra hour of sleep might sound great, the shift can disrupt your body’s internal clock, leading to fatigue, irritability, and even increased health risks like heart attacks and strokes. Lois Neering, NP, with Munson Sleep Disorders Center, reminds us:

“Standard time is actually more in sync with our body’s internal clock. This alignment can improve sleep quality and reduce health risks associated with sleep deprivation.”

✅ Tips to ease the transition:

• Gradually adjust your sleep schedule before the change
• Get morning sunlight to reset your internal clock
• Avoid caffeine and screens before bed
• Stick to consistent routines for sleep, meals, and exercise
• Try a light therapy lamp to beat seasonal blues

“Even a short walk outside in the morning light can make a big difference,” says Neering.

Stay safe, sleep well, and enjoy the extra hour! 💤
