Happy Veterans Day! To all those who bravely served, thank you for your service to our country!!

We held a special ceremony today honoring our residents for their service and sacrifices. A big thank you to Colonel Eggle of the Northern Michigan Airborne Chapter, and Dean Amos of the 82nd Airborne Division Association for coming to our facility to show your appreciation to our veteran residents. Our Veterans were each presented a personalized plaque and medal, and to end the ceremony today they enjoyed lunch while sharing stories from over the years with fellow Veterans.

Team Spotlight: Nurse Practitioner Nichole Kelenske, MSN-AGNP-C

Meet Nichole Kelenske, one of our dedicated Nurse Practitioners with Sound Physicians! Nichole brings more than 20 years of nursing experience to our team, including the last 10 years serving as a Nurse Practitioner.

She earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern Michigan College and completed her Master of Science in Nursing at Purdue Global (formerly Kaplan University). Her clinical training took place in several primary care clinics throughout Northern Michigan, where she developed a passion for supporting patients, building long-term relationships, and helping each resident achieve their best health while managing chronic conditions.

Nichole was drawn to the Nurse Practitioner role because it allows her to build long-term relationships with her patients and be a steady partner in their care journey. She values being part of a supportive and inspiring team at Sound Physicians that empowers her to practice to her fullest potential.

Outside of work, Nichole and her family run a grass-fed beef farm in beautiful Leelanau County.

We’re grateful to have Nichole on our team and appreciate the compassion, expertise, and dedication she brings to her patients every day!

Our newly remodeled Aspen Wing has been open for just over a month — 5 years after closing during COVID.

Our first Aspen resident, Judy, shared how meaningful this move has been for her. Before coming to The Pavilions, she lived in a nursing home downstate but always hoped to return home to Traverse City. After several months on our Birch Wing, she was thrilled to hear a space was ready for her on Aspen.

Now happily settled in, Judy shared,
“I love it here. To have my own personal space is wonderful… I’m in a better place now.”

We couldn’t be happier to welcome her home and celebrate this new chapter together.

• What it covers: Each scholarship covers 10 Aftercare sessions.

• Who it's for: Individuals who have completed an episode of aquatic therapy and have received an aftercare program from their therapist. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need.

Team Spotlight: Nurse Practitioner Elizabeth Zokas, MSN, NP

Meet Elizabeth Zokas, one of our Nurse Practitioners with Sound Physicians, who has been caring for our residents for seven years. Beth earned her Masters of Science in Nursing from Walden University and also attended Saginaw Valley State University. Her clinical training took place at MMC with Indigo Health Partners and The Pavilions, along with time in a small rural primary care office with the Nephrology group.

She has always been interested in both the science of medicine and the personal side of patient care. As a Nurse Practitioner, she enjoys being able to combine those two passions. In long-term care, she values the relationships she builds with residents and being able to advocate for their dignity through every stage of aging.

Outside of work, Beth spends most of her time with her family, especially her two young boys, ages 16 months and 3 years. They love being outdoors together boating, skiing, and bike riding whenever they can.

We’re lucky to have Beth on our team and appreciate the care and commitment she brings to her patients every day!

Elm residents had a great time decorating pumpkins with childcare! Using stickers, googly eyes, and other fun materials, everyone enjoyed a creative afternoon together. It’s always nice to see such meaningful connections through simple activities 🎃
