Dogs with ear infections will often shake their head and scratch their ears to relieve the discomfort.

After treatment, it’s very important to schedule a recheck exam—even if your dog is no longer showing symptoms. Without a follow-up exam, it’s impossible to confirm that the infection has fully cleared. Chronic ear infections can lead to resistance to treatment and have bigger long-term effects on your pet.

As we enter the warmer seasons, it’s important that we keep in mind other risks associated with living in Northern Michigan!

Spring is here! And with that comes a warning about Leptospirosis, a disease caused by infection with Leptospira bacteria.

All dogs are at risk of leptospirosis, regardless of age, breed, lifestyle, geographic location, time of year, and other factors. The following situations can increase that risk:

➡Exposure to or drinking from slow-moving or stagnant water sources, like ponds, rivers, lakes, or streams
➡ Roaming on rural properties (because of exposure to potentially infected wildlife or farm animals or urine-contaminated water sources)
➡ Exposure to wild animals (especially rodents) or farm animals, even if in the backyard
➡ Contact with other dogs (such as in urban areas, dog parks, or boarding or training facilities)

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we share the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Dr. Jossens.

Dr. Jossens was the definition of dedication. Whether it was staying late to comfort a nervous pet or offering a kind word to a client in a time of need, she consistently went above and beyond. Her compassion knew no bounds—she cared for every human who walked through our doors just as deeply as she cared for their beloved animals.

The clinic feels a little quieter today without her warmth and wit. We will miss her every single day, but her legacy of kindness will live on in the lives of the countless pets and families she touched.

Rest in peace, Dr. Jossens. You were truly one of a kind.

Celebrate the life of Marianne Jossens, leave a kind word or memory and get funeral service information care of Muehlig Funeral Chapel.

Spring is coming… and so is that pollen! 🌼🌷
As the snow melts and plants begin to bloom, pollen and other seasonal irritants can start affecting our pets just like they affect us. If you notice watery or red eyes, a runny nose, excessive scratching, licking paws, or skin irritation, your pet may be dealing with seasonal allergies.

If you’re seeing changes, schedule an appointment and let’s talk through the best options for your pet. Call us at (231) 946-3770 or visit www.gtveterinary.com

Did you know ticks become active at just 33 degrees?

Even in winter, it’s important to stay consistent with tick prevention and check your pet when they come back inside. A quick check now can prevent bigger problems later.
