Total Surge: Reports rose from 258 in 2015 to a record high of 3,434 in 2025.
Hospitalization Spikes: Hospitalizations linked solely to kratom increased by more than 1,150% (from 43 to 538), while those involving multiple substances jumped nearly 1,300%.
Severe Outcomes & Deaths: There were 233 deaths associated with kratom during the study period, with 79% (184 deaths) involving other substances such as opioids, benzodiazepines, or antidepressants.

Contributing Factors: Researchers attribute the dramatic rise—including a significant jump in 2025—to the drug's widespread availability in gas stations and v**e shops, as well as the increasing potency of newer alkaloid extracts.
