This has been my approach to excising and how I guide my pregnant mama clients 💪

Everyone is going to have different intensity thresholds while pregnant; yes, you have seen that mom on instagram who is crushing barbell snatches at 36 weeks, and you might feel like you can barely get through body weight lunges.

Here’s the truth- whatever you can do counts and is beneficial! There is a plethora of research that moms who stay active during pregnancy experience so many benefits for both themselves and baby, but you have to do what works for you. I’ve had 2 pregnancy’s where I have been able to workout the whole time, and another where I could barely muster anything. I get it 🫶

While motivating yourself to workout sometimes feels worthless, I promise you the effort to get up and move is SO worth it. It’s in investment in your postpartum self.

The Fat Loss Debate: Food Quality or Quantity?

If you’ve ever fallen deep into the clean eating world, trends like paleo, GF, DF, Veganism etc, you might have been sold the idea that calories don’t matter, it’s all about ingredients and how “clean” your food is. Take it from my experience, if a certain aesthetic is your goal, calories definitely matter.

When the IIFYM (if it fits your macros) movement first came out, there was a craze proving that one could eat all sorts of previously deemed “bad foods” and still lose weight, if you got it all to fit within your macros. The problem? People felt like crap. This trend didn’t last long for for a good reason.

We now know how important it is to focus on BOTH. The great thing about Whole Foods is that they are easy to batch cook, measure/track and will make you feel fuller for longer (WIN in a fat loss phase).

But we also need to live our lives, and we aren’t going to demonize the coffee creamer, the protein bars we keep in the car or that nightly scoop of ice cream after the kids go to bed.

If you can focus on trying to control and home cook as many meals as you can throughout your week, you leave more flexibility for the takeout nights, treats and conveniences along the way

Absolutely no problem with GLP-1’s becoming more popular and making them more widely available for those who need it. Our country does have a massive health crisis and the highest obesity rates for a developed country.

But, if you are going to go this route, you can’t skip the work around being intentional and educated with your food and fitness.

To put it straight: if you loose 10lbs in 3 months and 5lbs of that is muscle, you are losing valuable metabolic, active and anti-aging tissue that your body needs to be healthy!

So yes, I’m pro GLP-1’s + coaching to make for the most successful outcome 👏🏻

As someone who loves a sweet coffee, this has been a recipe I’ve been drinking and tweaking for years. From the what I’ve found, bone broth protein blends the best and buys you 13g of protein per scoop.

Adding protein to your coffee isn’t a requirement, but it’s a great way to sneak more of this macro into your day and helps you get intentional calories in first thing in the morning if breakfast is hard for you!

Confused by healthy eating? This is your reminder to not over complicate it. Below are foods I always have in my fridge so I can make myself a balanced meal like the adult I am!

Save this for next time you’re at the store ‼️

GROCERY STAPLES:

Eggs
Feta cheese
Veggies to sautee or roast (these can be frozen!)
Sprouted wheat toast or bagels
Salad greens or a salad bag
Hummus or avocado
Different lightened up salad dressings or good oils + vinegars
Premade or meal prepped lean protein source (grilled chicken, lean ground beef or turkey, tuna fish)
Whole fruits
Cheese sticks
Beef jerky

If the above are so routined in your weekly grocery shop you don’t even have to think about it, you’ll always have options for a balanced meal 🍽️

Am I knocking on wood as I post this? Yes. But when I say this simple yet effective combo has been the gold standard this year I’m not kidding. Even while pregnant, I’ve been holding strong admist all the bugs around us!

More studies are emerging that a high protein diet is SUPERIOR for weight loss over just cutting your calories

Why?

1️⃣A high protein diet (meaning eating at least .7g of protein per body weight in pounds) not only ignites weight loss, it encourages FAT LOSS over *just* weight loss

Weight loss could be water loss. Weight loss could be muscle loss.
Just because you see the number going down on the scale, doesn’t always means it's fat ☝🏼

2️⃣Eating higher protein ignites your metabolism.

Protein has the highest thermic effect of food, meaning your body burns more calories through digesting it. Go for whole foods protein sources, like meat, dairy, etc, over supplements to get the best bang for your buck 💥

3️⃣ Eating high protein will help you maintain muscle mass

Your muscle mass is the most metabolically active tissue you have, meaning the more muscle on your body, the more calories you burn at rest 🔥

4️⃣ Protein helps keep you more full and satisfied

Once you bump up the protein sources at your meals, you’ll notice a couple things:
First - you can’t eat as much! Try eating 400 calories in chicken over 400 calories in chips… one goes down WAY easier than the other 🤔

Second- you stay more satisfied between meals. This helps naturally cut down on mindless snacking and that hangry feeling we can get when we’re trying to diet down 🙌🏽

I was not motivated today

I didn’t want to go into my [kinda dirty] cluttered garage and workout

But I knew that if I pushed past the initial resistance, I would get into the flow

This is your reminder that motivation is fleeting. If you only rely on when you feel “motivated”, you’re going to have a hard time staying consistent.

Habits are built through repetitive action that feels rewarding.

On those days when you’re feeling resistance to your workout or meal prep or food tracking or sleep routine - remember that you will NEVER regret taking the action that leads to that rewarding feeling of getting it done 🌟

Here’s what I do:

Set a timer for 5 minutes to start taking action. Once you push through those intial 5 minutes, you’ll be on your way!

Action creates motivation 🚀
