In a unanimous 89-0 vote at its October 2025 Annual Business Meeting, the New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA) approved Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) for official membership, a historic first. A two-year pilot program launched January 1, 2026, gives LPN members access to continuing education, advocacy, and networking, plus dual membership in the Forum of Licensed Practical Nurses (FLPN).

The latest 2026 Nursing Data and Analysis Report from the NJ Collaborating Center for Nursing highlights both encouraging growth in the RN pipeline and urgent gaps that still demand attention, including rising turnover rates, LPN enrollment declines, and faculty shortages across the state.

Nurses must find their voice in the policy spaces that shape the future of healthcare.

Big news for advanced practice nurses in New Jersey!

On March 30, 2026, Governor Mikie Sherrill signed legislation eliminating certain practice restrictions for advanced practice nurses.

This legislation makes permanent independent practice authority for APNs providing primary or behavioral health care and allows qualifying APNs to prescribe medications without a collaborating physician.
