Dorothy Delores Pettaway was born on December 23, 1945 to the Late Amanda Lawrence and Columbus Pettaway.
Dorothy was born in Princeville, North Carolina until she relocated to Trenton, New Jersey at the age of 19.
Dorothy didn’t come along, she had two sons of her own. Dorothy came to Trenton because of her brother Julius, he was living in Trenton and being his baby sister and only sister he went and brought her and her children here to be with him so he could help her with her children.
Dorothy affectionately known as Dot was also raised by her grandmother Emma Lawrence when her mother passed.
She is predeceased by her daughter; Patricia Pettaway, granddaughters; Sharelle Pettaway and Samantha Solomon, grandson; Korey Solomon, brothers; Columbus Pettaway, Julius Pettaway, Johnnie Pettaway and Milton Pettaway.
Dorothy leaves to mourn and cherish her memories three sons; Monty Pettaway (Cynthia), Samuel Eugene Pettaway an Alexander Pettaway, all of Trenton, New Jersey. She is also survived by one daughter; Cheryl Pettaway Hagler of Trenton, brother; Tyrone Pettaway of North Carolina and sister in law Era Pettaway of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Also left to cherish her memory are 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren (Mazai Davis and Mason Davis).
Dot loved her family and all her children, and her children’s children starting with Lataya Solomon, Matika Pettaway, Monty Jr. Pettaway, Shanell Pettaway, Shabree Pettaway, Gregory Pettaway, Tyhira’ Hagler, Rakeem Pettaway, Tyhir Pettaway, Darius Solomon & Kortney Solomon, Breanna Calix (Richard), Breasia Solomon; the two granddaughters that were there with her from birth. Dot raised them as well as she raised Lataya and Samantha.
Dot has a host of nieces and nephews that lover her and she loved them.
Dot, a woman of love and wisdom helped everyone that crossed her path. She was always willing to help if she could with no questions asked. She was a family oriented person and she made sure that she showed that love to her family. For all that knew her, knew she loved cruising, she loved the Lord and loved listening to her gospels. Dot love going to the casino and scratching her scratch offs. She also enjoyed hanging out with her friends; Irene, Jean, Sissy and Debbie. She will definitely be missed by many along with her special friend Ronnie that always made her laugh.
