Brian Wilson was diagnosed with dementia in 2024.

Brian Wilson, the visionary co-founder of the Beach Boys and one of the most influential figures in 20th‑century pop music, has passed away. He was 82 years old.

“We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world,” Wilson’s family said in a statement.

So sad. What continues to make me sad is that Hackman’s daughter had said early in the investigation that her father regularly did pilates and yoga, but she had not spoken to him in “months.”

He had advanced Alzheimers. That doesn’t advance in “months.” So, likely it had been years since they spoke since she didn’t mention his cognitive decline. Far be it from me to judge a relationship with a parent gone south. But I am surprised at how common that is now. An alzheimers diagnosis is frightening, and made more so by not having an army of loved ones around you to support you, provide familiar faces, and speak lovingly of how you have blessed the world with your life.

The actor may not have known his wife was dead inside the home he was living in because of the disease.
