Anger. Grief. Helplessness.

The release of the Epstein files has stirred deep emotions for many people. In this episode of the Reiki Women Podcast, we explore these reactions through the lens of the system of reiki and ask an important question:

What if anger isn’t something to suppress?

In Reiki philosophy, anger can be understood as sacred rage or wrathful compassion, a force that, when grounded in steadiness and compassion, can move us toward truth, boundaries, and accountability rather than harm.

We also discuss how the first Reiki precept is often misunderstood in Western interpretations, sometimes leading people, especially women, to feel shame around anger instead of learning how to work with it wisely.

This conversation touches on power, accountability, emotional intelligence, and the role of community in responding to injustice.

Today is the 100th anniversary of the passing of Usui Mikao, the founder of Reiki. 🕊️

Usui Sensei left this world with an enduring legacy and I believe it was no accident that Usui Reiki Ryoho (translation “Usui’s Reiki Method”) withstood the test of time becoming a source of healing and inspiration to millions of people.

Looking back to words that we can attribute to Usui Sensei, he spoke often about the interconnection between the body and mind.

In his Reiki manual, he states that we need improvement and restructuring our society away from illness and suffering. He described the Reiki Precepts as a method to help improve your mind and body.

A note from one of his direct students shares this reflection:

“The universal law of the great universe and one’s mind must be perpetually integrated.”

So for today’s Monday Mantra, I invite you to reflect on the exchange between the mind and body.

Do you have to believe in Reiki for it to work? 🤍

This is one of the most common questions we receive, and the answer might surprise you.

The system of Reiki was created to be accessible to everyone. It isn’t about blind belief. It’s experiential. It’s about presence, life force energy, and allowing the body’s natural intelligence to restore balance.

In this episode, we explore:

✨ Why belief isn’t required
✨ What “Ki” really means
✨ Why the first sessions can feel uncertain
✨ Letting go of expectations
✨ Why healing isn’t always linear

Skepticism is welcome. Questions are healthy.
Letting go is often the hardest part.

What does it actually mean to decolonize your Reiki practice?

It’s not a trend.
It’s not a buzzword.
And it’s definitely not a branding strategy.

Decolonizing your Reiki practice means:

⛩️ Learning the roots of Reiki and honoring its Japanese lineage

⛩️ Using the universal concepts of Reiki as permission for erasure

⛩️ Questioning why practitioners feel entitled to add, change or modify the system of Reiki

⛩️ Not using “love and light” or "do not get angry" to avoid conversations about power and harm

This isn’t about shame.
It’s about responsibility.
It’s about integrity.

If you practice Reiki, teach Reiki, or receive Reiki — this conversation includes you.

I’ll be sharing more about this inside of Decolonize Your Reiki Practice.

✨ Are we giving our own energy during a Reiki session? ✨

In this episode of the Reiki Women Podcast, we explore a common question in the system of Reiki: whether our personal energy is involved in a session and where Reiki is truly sourced.

We talk about the differences between Western and Japanese perspectives of the system of Reiki, how energy is already present in the shared space, and why sessions are about being together rather than “sending” energy. We also share practical guidance on grounding, energetic and emotional hygiene, and how the fourth precept “True to my way and my being” helps us navigate universal interconnectedness while honoring ourselves and our clients.

✨ If this podcast has supported your journey in the system of Reiki, you can help us sustain it in 2026:

Compassion means I can stop fighting myself.

It means I can soften the inner critic.

It means I can respond to myself in the way I would respond to someone I love.

This week, notice where you’ve been too harsh with yourself.

Pause. Breathe. Choose compassion instead. 🙏🏼

You don’t grow through shame or blame.

You grow through loving awareness.

🕯️ ANDDDD sometimes, compassion needs support.

If YOU could use some help softening the inner critique or releasing harsh energy… reach out for a restorative Reiki session. You don’t have to untangle it all alone.

Let this be the week you stand on your own side. 🤍

Honoring the Origins of Reiki 🇯🇵

When I traveled to Japan, I had the privilege of speaking with Japanese Reiki practitioners about how Reiki is understood in Japan. One of the things they shared was how disheartening—even offensive—it can be when Western Reiki practitioners claim that Reiki originated somewhere other than Japan.

From their perspective, if someone believes Reiki is not inherently Japanese, they should remove the word “Reiki” from their practice altogether. Because at its core, Reiki is not just a universal energy—it is a cultural and spiritual tradition deeply rooted in Japan’s worldview, language, and spiritual heritage.

Yet, many modern Reiki practices have strayed far from these roots, often blending in elements from other traditions without understanding the cultural impact. This is where cultural and spiritual appropriation can creep in, even with the best intentions of Reiki practitioners.

Here are some examples of cultural and spiritual appropriation within Reiki:

🇯🇵 Combining Reiki with the Indian chakra system without acknowledging Japan’s own unique understanding of the subtle body.
🇯🇵 Stripping Reiki of its Japanese cultural, spiritual, and linguistic context.
🇯🇵 Mixing Reiki with other spiritual or religious traditions as if they are the same.
🇯🇵 Using “Reiki” as a catch-all term for various energy healing practices unrelated to Reiki.
🇯🇵 Applying the title “Reiki Master” in ways that misrepresent traditional Japanese teacher-student relationships.
🇯🇵 Connecting Reiki symbols to angels, deities, or concepts from non-Japanese religions, disregarding their deep Buddhist and Shinto significance.
🇯🇵 Making broad claims about Reiki based solely on personal experience rather than its historical and cultural foundations.
🇯🇵 Falsely claiming Reiki did not originate in Japan.

Decolonizing Reiki doesn’t mean rejecting the evolution of practice—it means engaging with Reiki in a way that honors and respects its cultural roots rather than erasing or distorting them.

If this resonates with you, I invite you to join my upcoming Decolonizing Your Reiki Practice course, where we’ll explore these topics with depth, care, and integrity.

Let’s commit to practicing Reiki in a way that truly honors its origins.

✨ Entering Year Four ✨

We are stepping into 2026 with deep gratitude for this global community walking the path of the system of reiki.

In this episode, we reflect on the Radiance Series — especially the powerful conversations around Animal Reiki practice — and share what’s unfolding next for the Reiki Women Podcast.

This past year has reminded us how diverse and specialized the system of reiki truly is. From animal practitioners to teachers, mentors, and space holders, women continue shaping its evolving culture in meaningful and grounded ways.

We speak about collaboration over competition, inclusion in healing spaces, and our commitment to elevating women’s voices within the system of reiki.

As we grow, so does this circle.
