By harvesting autogenous bone from the maxilla, Dr. Michael A. Pikos is able to re-establish critical support for an exposed implant in the maxillary arch. In this procedure, he utilizes the Micross Bone Scraper to harvest autogenous bone, along with the Mem-Lok membrane and AutoTac system to secure the graft.

Case Review: 34-Year-Old Female Patient

This patient presented with multiple severely decayed teeth and a strong desire for a complete dental reset.

A phased treatment approach was developed to comprehensively restore both function and esthetics:

✅ Tooth extractions with socket grafting
✅ Bilateral sinus grafting utilizing the Pikos Membrane Repair Technique (1994) to successfully manage large bilateral membrane perforations
✅ Immediate implant placement with an FP3 provisional restoration
✅ Delivery of the final FP3 prosthesis

➡️ The mandibular arch will be restored through conventional restorative general dentistry.

Considering the patient’s young age, a strategic decision was made to avoid zygomatic or other remote anchorage implants. Instead, traditional sinus grafting with axially placed implants was chosen to promote long-term stability while preserving future treatment options.
