🐣🐥🐣I see this every spring! Have you had any luck feather 🪶 sexing baby chicks??? What are some tips you’ve heard of to hatch more percent of females vs males???

🐣🔎 How to Identify a Chick 🔎🐣

1️⃣ Gently spread the wing
Carefully extend one wing to see the feather pattern clearly.

2️⃣ Look at feather length
Compare the primary and secondary feathers.

3️⃣ Male chick
Feathers appear more even in length, forming a smooth one-step curve.

4️⃣ Female chick
Feathers show two distinct lengths, creating a two-step layered look.

5️⃣ Check early
This method works best within the first few days after hatching.

Feather pattern comparison is a quick visual guide, but accuracy can vary by breed.

Plants That Attract Hummingbirds 🐦 If you want more hummingbirds in the garden, flowers matter more than feeders alone. They’re usually drawn to:
❤️ Bright blooms, especially red, pink, coral, and purple
🌸 Tubular flowers they can sip from easily
🌿 Groups of flowers instead of just one plant here and there
A few things that help:
☀️ Most hummingbird favorites bloom best in good sun
💧 Keep plants watered well while they’re getting established
⏳ Choose a mix that blooms at different times so there’s food longer
A garden with layers of color and steady blooms is what really keeps them coming back. ✨

🌼I’ve got my Calendula planted!🌼

March is prime time for cool-season color! These blooms don’t mind chilly nights and they’ll wake your garden up fast. 🌤️
A couple beginner tips so they actually thrive:
🌿 Plant on an overcast day or late afternoon to reduce transplant shock
💧 Water in well, then keep soil lightly moist for the first week
🧊 If a hard freeze is coming, cover with a sheet or frost cloth overnight
✂️ Pinch snapdragons once they’re 6–8" tall for bushier plants and more flowers later
