"brahmārpaṇaṁ brahma havir brahmāgnau brahmaṇā hutam brahmaiva tena gantavyaṁ brahma-karma-samādhinā"
From the fourth discourse and twenty fourth shloka of the Bhagavad Gita entitled The Renunciation of Action in Knowledge and Division of Wisdom,
"Brahman is the offering, Brahman is the melted butter(ghee) By Brahman is the offering poured into the sacrificial fire which is Brahman. Those who always see Brahman in action will know Brahman."
This is called a Wisdom Sacrifice and is a very important concept to our philosophies. Brahman is the absolute, the doer and all things thought and experienced. To know this is the greatest knowledge and to experience this first hand is the highest state of being. In some traditions, this verse is recited before eating. It has become my tradition too for almost two decades and in sincere reflection I have had the blessing of knowing That all is connected and even brief moments of experience in this Absolute Truth.
Saying grace, a means of reminding of our blessings and the acknowledgement that others might not be as blessed is a time honored tradition that is universal amongst most spiritual traditions. However done, with sincere reflection we come to know in time that we are all in this together. My pain or gain is the cumulative and such in reverse. I eat for the whole and we are transformed one soul at a time.
