Roughly 1 in 10 girls and women in America and over 176 million worldwide are affected by endometriosis, yet a diagnosis can take 7 to 10 years. 🌎
Endometriosis is an inflammatory disease, where tissue similar to that which lines the uterus grows in places outside of the uterus, where it does not normally occur and does not belong.
This tissue can cause pain, scarring and adhesions not only on the reproductive organs, but also on other organs within and outside of the pelvis.
Even though this disease is associated strongly with infertility, not all women who have endometriosis are infertile, and many are able to conceive with the help of assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures such as in vitro fertilization. 🩺
While many individuals with endometriosis have pelvic or abdominal pain, particularly with menstrual bleeding or when having sexual in*******se, some have no symptoms at all.
Awareness is key for early diagnosis and treatment. This Endometriosis Awareness Month, let’s raise our voices for the millions of women living with this painful and misunderstood disease.
