Pure Healthy Back is a medical-class physical rehabilitation program utilizing protocol driven guidelines. We are back, neck and extremity pain specialists, who have completed over 1 million physical therapy visits since 1992 (formerly Dynamic Rehabilitation). Our therapy approach is evidence-based, objectively measured treatment procedures delivering outstanding outcomes and returning patients back to their everyday activities. Treatment begins with careful evaluation by a licensed and extensively trained physical therapist. From there, contact is made with your primary care/referring physician after deciding on our method of treatment. Once you decide to get your life back the Pure team will work with you using our clinical protocols and proprietary medical equipment. The goal is always to improve muscle strength, disc health, endurance, mobility, and function. In fact, 4 out 5 patients who complete the program successfully meet their goals. We may all experience dizziness from time to time — perhaps while riding the Tilt-a-Whirl at the fair, or after showing our toddler how to do a somersault. But for people with chronic vertigo and other vestibular issues, symptoms like dizziness can be debilitating. But physical therapy may be able to help.

More than 1 in 3 adults aged 40 and over in the United States have experienced vestibular dysfunction, or a disturbance in the body’s system of balance. And because vestibular problems are hard to diagnose, patients typically need to see more than one doctor before getting an accurate diagnosis.

Fortunately, many people with vestibular problems are finding relief in an unexpected place —physical therapy. Understanding how physical therapy helps with vestibular issues may help you decide if this kind of treatment is right for you.

If you are suffering from shoulder impingement, frozen shoulder, or an overuse strain you might benefit from physical therapy. Here are a few stretches that will help get your shoulder moving again.

First however, see your medical provider before starting any exercise program to make sure you do not cause further injury.

Behind the back shoulder stretch – Get into a comfortable seated position on the floor or on a chair (leave enough room for your hands to stretch behind you). If you can, clasp your hands together. If you cannot, you can hold onto a towel. Sitting upright slowly raise your hands feeling a stretch in your shoulders. Keep your head in a neutral position, try not to strain your neck. Hold stretch for 30 seconds.

Shoulder pendulum swings – Place your good arm on either a wall, chair, or table. Lean over and relax the arm that has pain or is injured letting it hang straight down. Slowly start to swing the hanging arm in a circle letting your body do the moving. The arm should just swing naturally. Reverse direction. Perform this for 30 seconds.

Quadruped rotations – Slowly get down on hands and knees. Place hands directly under shoulders and knees directly under hips. Shift your weight to one side and lift the arm on the other side placing behind your head. Rotate the arm behind the head towards the opposite knee to feel a stretch in the back and shoulder. Raise back up and repeat. Hold stretch for a few seconds and perform 10 times. Switch to other side and repeat.

If you are looking for a physical therapist to help with your shoulder issues or injury, give Pure Healthy Back a call at 888-396-2642 or visit www.purehealthyback.com/appointments.

Your shoulder is a ball and socket joint that is very mobile and flexible. The shoulders help you reach overhead and throw a ball. The muscles that support and surround the shoulders are prone to injury if you perform repetitive movements (think swimmers, baseball players). Daily strength and mobility exercises can help prevent injury and keep your shoulders healthy.

Cross-arm stretch – Sitting in a comfortable position (shown on ground sitting cross-legged), stretch one arm out and reach to the opposite side. With the other hand, hold gently the elbow of the stretched arm and pull slightly until you feel a stretch in the shoulder. Turn your head to look at the shoulder of the stretched arm if comfortable and does not strain your neck. Repeat on other side. Suggest performing stretch 2 – 3 times per day and hold for 30 seconds.

Finger climb – Stand just far enough from a wall that your fingertips touch. Slowly walk your fingers up the wall until arm is fully extended and you feel a stretch, hold for a few seconds. Walk fingers back down wall. Repeat on opposite side. Suggest performing mobility exercise 2 – 3 times per day.

Cat – Cow to Prayer Stretch – Kneeling on all fours exhale and bring your abdomen in, arching your spine and bringing your head and pelvis down like a “cat”. Inhale and reverse the posture, curve your lower back and tilt your head and pelvis up like a “cow”. After a few sequences of this place forearm on the ground and stretch the opposite out in front in “prayer” position. Slowly lower the hips towards the ankles and feel the stretch in the side/shoulder of the stretched-out arm. Repeat on other side. Suggest performing mobility exercise 2 – 3 times per day. Hold stretches for 30 seconds.

Slipping and falling can have serious consequences, causing broken bones, head trauma and other injuries. Luckily, physical therapy is an option for helping people recover after a slip-and-fall accident.
