“I had to draw a hard line with someone I love deeply. It was painful. But afterward… I felt stronger.” – Lori
After years of putting others first, Lori finally made a choice to protect her peace. It wasn’t easy. But it was a turning point—and a moment her therapist called a breakthrough.
“She was so excited for me,” Lori said. “She said, ‘Yes! You’re getting it!’ That moment changed everything. I finally realized it was time to start living for me.”
At River’s Bend, healing doesn’t just happen in a straight line. It happens in quiet shifts, emotional leaps, and moments of self-realization like this one.
🗓️ Lori’s full story releases November 17.
Join us in sharing her strength and celebrating what it means to choose yourself.

⚠️ In December, we’re pausing the traditional P4P format to co-host Michigan Presents: Understanding Trauma + Levels of Care on December 12—a can't-miss CEU event for mental health and SUD professionals.

“She’s not just my therapist—she’s my guardian angel.” – Lori
When Lori’s family was in crisis, she found River’s Bend. What she didn’t expect was to find someone who would walk beside her through decades of healing.
Stephanie Howey, River’s Bend Co-Owner and Licensed Therapist, became part of Lori’s life at a time when her 12-year-old son was struggling with misdiagnoses and early substance use. Since then, Stephanie has supported Lori’s entire family—her son, daughter, late husband, and Lori herself.
💚 Lori says:
“Stephanie helped me through grief, taught me to set boundaries, and celebrated every breakthrough like it was her own.”
This is more than therapy. It’s a relationship rooted in trust, compassion, and continuity of care.
🗓️ Lori’s full story comes out November 17.
Until then, we’re sharing reflections from her journey—because therapy that truly shows up can change everything.

“I think I’ll be in therapy forever… and every human could benefit from it.”
– Lori, River’s Bend client for nearly two decades
Lori never expected that a therapy appointment for her son would become the beginning of her own journey toward healing.
She stayed. She grew. She grieved. She broke through.
And today, she says she’s still here—because therapy continues to give her the tools she needs to live a life that feels grounded and true.
At River’s Bend, we know therapy isn’t just for crisis—it’s for clarity, support, and the slow rebuilding of confidence.
📅 Lori’s full story releases Nov. 17.
Until then, we’ll be sharing moments that show just how powerful therapy can be.

As a healthcare professional or referral partner, you’ve likely recommended cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but how is it actually used in intensive outpatient programs?
We integrate CBT into our core programming because it’s more than symptom management, it’s about helping clients build real, long-lasting coping strategies.

✅ CBT helps clients:
- Recognize unhelpful thought patterns
- Respond with healthier behaviors
- Regain a sense of control in recovery

In our latest blog, we share how CBT functions in practice, and how your patients and clients can benefit from structured, evidence-based support at every stage of healing.
