Back in 1966, a group of Lincoln County citizens saw the growing need for a Public Health Nursing Service. They circulated a petition, presented it to the Lincoln County Court, and it was approved—officially launching what would become our Health Department.

On August 1, 1966, Carole Jean Waggoner, R.N., was hired as our first Administrator and Public Health Nurse, with Maxine B. Albart joining as Secretary.

The photo shows the 1966 newspaper ad declaring our opening! Thanks to the incredible record-keepers who came before us, these memories have been preserved. Keep an eye out—we’ll be sharing more pieces of LCHD history as we celebrate 60 years! 🥳

🚨It’s a name you’ve probably never heard: nitazenes.
These synthetic opioids are being found across Missouri in counterfeit pills, powders and vapes. Nitazenes are 5 to 10 times more potent than fentanyl. Even a tiny amount can cause someone to stop breathing.
