On Monday at our Board Meeting, we were fortunate to have 3 elected officials join us as we said “goodbye” and “thank you” to 2 outgoing Board Members - Jerry Herbe and Joe Fulker. Both have been long-serving members of our Board who had also previously served on the Board for RT Industries. State Senator Steve Huffman, State Representative Johnathan Newman and Commissioner Ted Mercer joined our meeting to present both Joe and Jerry with letters of commendation for their service. We are grateful to both of them for their time and dedication to our mission.

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) invites waiver participants and their families to take part in this self-direction survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FLSQ5FH). The survey will help DODD learn what you know about self-directed waiver services. The survey is open until December 12, 2025.

Anyone on a DODD waiver has the ability to exercise greater choice and control over the long-term services and supports they receive through self-direction.

Self-direction lets people of all ages and abilities decide:
✅ What kind of support they receive
✅ How services are delivered
✅ Who provides the services

Last week, we were honored to receive two grants from the Miami County Foundation! Communications Coordinator, Jenna Gerig, wrote for our Early Intervention department and Community Connections Manager, Patrick Kilbane, wrote for the Miami County Special Olympics program. We’re so grateful for the generous support of the Miami County Foundation and are excited to use these funds to continue making a difference for people with developmental disabilities in our community.

At the end of October, the Community Connections Team hosted our annual Halloween Dance, with more than 100 people in attendance! The gym was packed with folks from Miami County, as well as some friends from surrounding counties that we invited. A big THANK YOU to Service and Support Administrators (SSAs) Kristin Watkins and Karen Armentrout, and Resource Support Coordinator Connie Binns for serving as our costume contest judges.

Check out this fun inclusive Christmas event!

*We’ve decided to lower the cost of our Christmas event to $5 per child. This small fee will simply help cover the cost of supplies.*

At More From Life Therapy, we believe every child deserves a space where they can experience the magic of the season — in a way that feels calm, comfortable, and welcoming.

Join us for our Inclusive Santa Event, where children of all abilities can enjoy crafts, cookies, and relaxed time with Santa. We are in the process of arranging for ASL interpreters to be available throughout the event to ensure EVERYONE can tell Santa what they want for Christmas!

Although we had hoped to use this event as a fundraiser for new sensory equipment, we know times are tough for many families right now. We can’t fix the world—but we can help bring a little light into the holidays. 💜

🥫 We’ll also be collecting canned food donations to support local families in need!

If this cost would prevent your family from attending, please reach out. We truly don’t want anyone to miss out on this special experience because of finances. Everyone deserves a little holiday magic! ✨

Check out this great resource by the Office of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel! The Winter Crisis Program provides financial aid once per heating season from Nov. 1 through March 31 for income-eligible consumers who have been disconnected or received a shut-off notice; have less than a 25% supply of bulk fuel; or need to establish new service or pay to transfer service.
