We are honored to provide mental health therapy to teens in our community made possible by the KIT Fund and the generous support of the Kiwanis Club of Troy MI—and the incredible partnership of our local school district! 💛

This fund helps students facing trauma, anxiety, or depression access timely, school-linked counseling—giving them the care they deserve when they need it most.

Thank you, Kiwanis, for supporting our community’s youth!

Troy Kiwanis Foundation recently presented a check for the KIT (Kiwanis Inspired Teens) Fund, aimed at providing essential financial assistance for youth mental health counseling. Community support has been instrumental in continuing this mental health initiative!!!

Autana Family Therapy Center provides mental health counseling sessions (referred by school counselors) and is funded by the KIT Fund for community youth going through trauma, depression, anxiety or mental health crisis.

Mental health is an issue that affects millions of individuals, yet it remains a topic that many people still struggle to openly discuss. Michigan statistics show 60% of youth with major depression do not receive mental health treatment. This financial assistance fund allows families (with no financial means or insurance) to obtain mental health counseling for their youth’s mental wellness.

Launched in Spring 2025, this mental health assistance donation fund supports:
• Youth mental health and well-being
• Strategies for managing stress, anxiety, and depression

The KIT Fund has rapidly connected youth with moderate to severe mental health needs to timely, school-linked therapy—changing trajectories for students who otherwise may have gone without care.
Per school counselors: “The adolescent mental health crisis has been well documented … school counselors often have no therapeutic options for low-income referrals that don’t come with a six-month wait list. The lack of mental health treatment, especially in trauma cases, can lead to a lack of motivation, school avoidance, drops in achievement, substance abuse, and suicidal ideation.

Meet our Sound Lab group facilitators, Henry Marcano and Maddie Baumberg!

Henry is one of our full time clinicians here at Autana Family Therapy Center. He is a bilingual Spanish-speaking therapist who specializes in trauma, depression, and life transitions (among other things), and he’ll be bringing his guitar skills to Sound Lab. You can also ask him about his experience with equine-assisted therapy!

Maddie is one of our wonderful MSW interns. She brings a background in musical theater and performing arts to Sound Lab. You can also ask her about her baking skills!

They can’t wait to share their passion for music with you at the next Sound Lab session. We hope to see you there!

🎧 Join our new weekly teen group, Sound Lab! Starting February 3rd.

We’re excited to share a new offering for teens who may be feeling isolated, stressed, or disconnected—and who are looking for a meaningful way to connect with others.

Sound Lab is a therapist-led, drop-in music therapy group for teens ages 14–18. Using music as a creative outlet, teens are invited to express emotions, explore identity, and build confidence in a supportive, judgment-free environment. It’s an especially great fit for teens who don’t love traditional “talk therapy” but feel most like themselves through music.

Each session offers opportunities to:

Share favorite songs, explore lyrics, and connect them to emotions

Jam and create music together

Bring their own instrument or use ones we provide

Connect with peers who share similar interests and passions

Show up exactly as they are, with no pressure to perform

Sound Lab is a drop-in group, meaning teens can come once, come every week, or join whenever they’re able, no long-term commitment required.

Today, we pause to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

In our current cultural moment, many of us are feeling overwhelmed by the injustices we are seeing. But now is not the time to give in to the despair. Instead, we encourage you to reconnect with your community and lean into collective care.

Change has never been the work of one person alone. It happens in community, through shared responsibility, mutual care, and showing up for one another in ways that are sustainable.

Dr. King’s legacy reminds us that hope is not passive. Hope is an active practice.

When you start to feel that pull towards despair and overwhelm, find one action, no matter how small, that you can take to make a positive impact on your community and reconnect with your hope.

Mid January can be an emotionally tricky time. The holidays are over, routines pick back up, the sunlight is short, and energy can dip without any clear reason.

If you’ve been feeling slower, more tired, or less motivated, be kind to yourself.

Try to offer yourself a little extra gentleness this week.

A slower morning. A warm meal. A brief walk. A moment of rest without guilt.

Small comforts matter more than we think ♥️

And if things start to feel overwhelming, it’s always okay to reach out for support. You don’t have to navigate this stretch of the year alone.

You do not have to start the new year in a hurry.

January can bring a lot of pressure to change everything at once. But you’re allowed to ease into the new year slowly, at a pace that supports your wellbeing.

You don’t need dramatic resolutions. You don’t need to “fix” yourself. You can begin gently and adjust as you go.

Find one gentle way you can ease into the new year, and start there ♥️

Looking back on 2025, what are you proud of for simply getting through?

As the year winds down, it can be tempting to focus only on what we didn’t do.

But surviving a hard season counts.
Showing up counts.
Starting again counts.

An end of the year reflection doesn’t have to be about achievement. It can be about noticing what you carried, what you learned, or how you kept going.

As you end 2025, remember to have compassion for your past, current, and future self. You’re here. And that is enough ♥️

A gentle holiday check-in: What do you need right now?

This time of year can stir up joy, stress, grief, and everything in between.

Take a moment to check in with yourself. What do you need this week?

A quiet, no-plans night in?

A ten minute call with a loved one?

Permission to take a break from cooking and have takeout or a snack plate for dinner one night this week?

Pick one thing you can do to take care of yourself this week, and let your loved ones know how they can support you in it. You deserve to be well ♥️
